Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed backlash towards Watch Dogs' apparent graphical downgrade has led to the company re-evaluating its pre-release policies.

Speaking to The Guardian at E3 2015, Guillemot acknowledged the issues arose from the game not being playable on the target machine at the time, and this should have been addressed sooner.

"With E3 2015 we said, OK, let's make sure the games are playable, that they're running on the target machines," he said. "When we show something, we ask the team, make sure it's playable, make sure gamers can immediately see exactly what it is. That's what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can't be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.

"It's a real challenge to create those types of games. When they come out, especially the first iterations, they are not perfect on everything. We think we launched a good quality game for a first step in a new brand with a new technology. It's just so complex – seamless multiplayer, connectivity with mobile and tablets, so many things – it was maybe a bit too much for a first iteration."

Upon being revealed back at E3 2013, Watch Dogs managed to take the collective breath of many away thanks to ambitious gameplay and gorgeous graphics. The finished produce, however, didn't quite look so polished, which prompted us to query if E3 demos are intentionally deceptive.

Though Watch Dogs 2 has yet to be officially announced, there's been a strong suggestion it's on the way. No details about the game have leaked but, back in January, creative director Jonathan Morin said the original was flawed and theteam needed to take risks with any potential sequel.
