Civilization V
PC
2010
Civilization V improves combat from IV and makes the game more friendly to the casual gamer but doesn't dumb itself down like Civilization Revolution.
For those who don't know Civilization is a turned based strategy game where you pick your own nation to build up from your first settler to a super power. There's several paths to victory. You can take over everyone else's capitals, be the first in space, build The UN, and several other paths.
Every different nation gets different unique advantages like America has better scouts and Britain has a superior navy. Even picking the right nation for the type of victory you want can be crucial. It would be easier to get a domination victory with Germany rather then France. But with France it would be easier to obtain a culture victory.
And as the head of your civilization you can declare war and make pacts. You can trade and make research agreements. New in V is city states. Picking the right city state can help you obtain the type of victory you want. And having the most city state allies will get you The UN Victory.
Like I said V improves combat from IV. Units can't stack onto one tile like previous Civilization games so instead of brute force you'll be forced to use strategy.
One of the negative things about Civilization V is that what you do with policy is dumbed down from the last game. You can't pick a national religion but rather just choose to be a religious nation.
Another thing is the AI is overly aggressive in this game compared to the past games. There's nothing at all you can do to prevent someone declaring war against you. And a majority of the time you'll need to either win by domination or by points.
Despite it's flaws Civilization V is a must have for strategy game enthusiasts. In fact Civilization V is the only reason I have Steam. I fully recommend giving Civilization a try.
I give this game a
9/10.
