| - ESPN Article: Messi's late goal saves bettor $350K wrote:
- This one will go down as one of the craziest bets in sports betting history.
A bettor walked into the Tuscany Casino in Las Vegas on Thursday and bet $231,676 in cash for Argentina to beat Iran straight up. It was the largest World Cup wager made at the 100 William Hill sportsbooks in the state of Nevada, confirmed company spokesman Michael Grodsky.
Argentina was such a prohibitive favorite that if the team won, he would only win $20,000 (and of course get his original bet money on top of that). Draw or lose, he would lose that money.
So confident that Argentina would win, the bettor dropped another $120,000 on the same bet on Friday to win another $10,000 if Argentina prevailed.
Well, the guy had to sweat. He was four minutes of stoppage time away from losing more than $350,000. As luck would have it, Lionel Messi scored seconds after the extra time was out on the clock and gave the bettor his risky $30,000 win. Dude has balls, would've been funny to see his reaction if Argentina lost... solid $30K win though. |

| I'm critical as any, but credit due: Klinsmann did well tonight. Schmid could take lesson from how Yedlin used. Seconds from historic win. Glad to see the REAL USA turn up today. Outplayed Portugal today. Next time let's get a win! Cameron really poor on both goals conceded, though. Now, let's wait & see the conspiracy theories roll should both Germany & USA earn a draw! |

| USA / How much would that suck if that final second goal ends up screwing them & they were just seconds away from advancing. It's still all good though as the tie puts them in a pretty good spot anyway and they played well. |

| 1st of all: I'm Portuguese.
I say Portugal didn't even deserve to be in the World Cup, to start with lol The whole squad has the same Agent (Jorge Mendes/Gestifute), so from here you see how everyone is called so they get "valued" to be sold, and for the company to get money. Not even counting the fact they center their gameplay around the"Pass the ball to Ronaldo, he'll do the rest and we'll win!" phylosophy. I hate that. That's why they do jacksh*t.
I was hoping they'd lose to the USA team, but now I'm even more eager for them to lose against Gana. |

| Not even mad, tho. 4 points was actually the ideal start for the US at this stage. I believe we've overachieved tbh. Some predicted we'd have 0 points & 0 goals. |

| ^^ I think this Portugal team is mediocre imo. I believe Ghana will run rampant on them. |

| Actually, not sure about this: when does the head to head result play a factor into the tie-breaker in FIFA, if at all? Second tie-breaker? |

| If the US & Ghana both sit on 4 points with the same GD, the USA will advance because we've already beaten them. |

| Alright, that's what I thought. Honestly, this could be really bad for the US. Not losing to Germany might be crucial cause I wouldn't doubt Ghana beating Portugal by a 2 goal margin. |
