The “24” movie that cast and crew of the hit series tried to get off the ground for umpteen years – before switching gears, and pitching an ‘event series’ to the studio instead – would be considerably different to the upcoming television event, “24 : Live Another Day”.

When the series was first announced, some speculated that it was the film ideal retooled for the small screen; not so, says star Kiefer Sutherland.

“The script for the film is very different”, THR quotes the actor. ”It’s an ongoing situation, and there’s always an opportunity to do it.”

“If this ends up rebooting the show or causing a film to be made, so be it, but we’re very happy about these 12 episodes right now.”

“24 : Live Another Day”, airing in May, will be set in London.

“If you remember at the end of season eight, Jack was basically left a fugitive,” said EP Manny Coto. “When we pick up four years later, he is still a fugitive. He’s hunted.”

Yvonne Strahvoski (“Dexter”) plays the agent hunting Sutherland’s character.

“The show will open with that dynamic,” added Coto, “A CIA agent hunting Jack. He’s not exactly Osama bin Laden, but he’s a fugitive of high order.”
On the series, Mary Lynn Rajskub’S Chloe O’Brien is no longer working for the CTU or with Jack.

“It has become a more complex world than when we started 24,” said Gordon. “This is really about Jack and where he is 12 years later. We’re going to introduce some exciting topics.”

If the event series is a hit, Sutherland would be up for reprising Jack Bauer on a permanent basis – but he’s also open to the possibility of passing the torch.

“There’s a lot of fantastic characters. When we started the show, I said that the star was 24, the concept. I still believe that very strongly. If an audience were to latch on to a younger character who was helping my character, that would certainly be an option.”
