TNA Wrestling and Dixie Carter announced the return of the King of the Mountain match for this year's Slammiversary pay-per-view. The company issued the following statement on their website:

"For the first time in six years, the King of the Mountain Match returns to Slammiversary on June 28 live on Pay Per View at 8pm ET.

A TNA original, and one of the most innovative matches in all professional wrestling, the King of the Mountain was a staple of the annual Slammiversary event through 2009. Some of the greatest wrestlers in TNA history have entered the King of the Mountain match in hopes to stake a claim to TNA Gold.

Impactwrestling.com is going to take you through the rules that make up the King of the Mountain match, and in the coming days join us right here to relive some of the best moments of the King of the Mountain matches from past Slammiversary.

King of the Mountain Rules:

The match consists of 5 competitors who begin ineligible to win. In order to become eligible one must score a submission or pinfall where falls count anywhere.

Once eligible the competitor must retrieve the belt from the official while the person who was pinned or submitted must spend 2 minutes in the "penalty box" cage.

Multiple competitors can be locked in the penalty box resulting in alliances or the fight continuing.

Once the belt is in play any other wrestler who is eligible may steal the belt, if at any point the belt is dropped it goes back to the official.

An eligible competitor hangs the belt on a hook suspended 15 feet above the ring via a ladder to win the match."

Dixie Carter also tweeted about the match, which you can see below:

You've waited... You've asked. We delivered. King of the Mountain match returns at #Slammiversary! #KOTM http://t.co/c8JTjmhbBI

I'd rather have see a singles match between Angle and Carter then a King of The Mountain match.

But I guess it really doesn't matter since I'm not able to see any build for this show anyway.

Finally, my wish has been fucking answered. That strange ass decision to remove EC3 vs. Angle makes some sense now...

I guess EC3 will win this, then the match they have afterwards is the rematch? Or Kurt retains and EC3 somehow is close and gets another shot? Maybe...they are recording all these in a fucked up way <_<

Either way, KotM is one of my favourite TNA matches. My interest for this shot up considerably.

I honestly don't like the match. Is just a example of taking something simple, a ladder match, and turning it into a overbooked mess.

I think the match can be improved a lot if you just reverse the finish to where you have to retrieve an item up the ladder instead of hanging it.

KOTM was one of those unique stips that was never really done in wrestling. Now if it were something stupid like a reverse battle royal, id be inclined to agree with you.

It is stupid. It's just overbooked. It's best to just keep things simple and logical.

In Money In The Bank you try to climb a ladder and take down a briefcase.

The rules for King of The Mountain are in Realt's post.

MITB is a simple and easy to understand match. KOTM is a example of over thinking things.

In KOTM you pin your opponent and then youre eligible to hang the title. I dont know how that makes things complicated.

The only thing stupid about it is the locked in the cage thingy. That's not needed. Apart from that, if you can't follows what's going on, you're dumb frankly.

If RoH did it, you've have an orgasm I aint bothered

ROH wouldn't do something like that because they don't have morons like Vince Russo kill of their company.

And if you need that much explanation going into a match you're making it too complicated for casual fans. I think it's a perfect match for TNA's One Night Only shows. I assume only TNA's hardcore fans watch those shows.

The fact there are too many rules aside the finish is stupid. I don't know how they came up with the idea you have to hang the belt to win the match. Everything up to that point sounds like something you can do in a sports match.

Royal Rumble almost takes as long as the match to explain the rules, so does the Elimination Chamber. Are they bad then?

At least it's more logical. A battle royal is closer to something like the king of the mountain game kids play than TNA's King of The Mountain match.

Also The Royal Rumble isn't a title match. Most of the time King of The Mountain is; if not always.

Also most people who know what pro wrestling is will understand how a battle royal works. A Royal Rumble isn't much of a stretch of what a battle royal normally is.

A lot of people also know what a ladder match is. But King of The Mountain has falls in the match. Falls I'll add with 6 or more people. They got the penalty box. And to top it all off it turns into a reverse ladder match where you have to get the belt and hang it.

It's sounds like such a cartoon. If they really wanted people to care about this show they'd just do EC3 vs. Angle in a singles match.
