Former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman appeared on Fox Sports Live last night, and was asked about his personal rivalry with former WWE Superstar and UFC trainee CM Punk.

“I would do a lot of things to him. I wouldn’t want to just beat him. I want to demolish him for the entire fight. I wouldn’t want to pin him. I wouldn’t want to knock him out. I just wanna make him feel pain.”

Their “beef” goes back to early 2011, when Shawne ran into former WWE Diva Eve Torres at a hotel. Punk went on social media and knocked him for “striking out”, equating his perceived diss with the Buffalo Bills, who lost in the Super Bowl four years in a row between 1991-94.

In 2014 there was a lot of speculation that Merriman was WWE-bound, appearing on the WrestleMania XXX pre-show. It was reported on the “JBL & Cole Show” that he had “joined the WWE family” and was spotted several times working out at the Performance Center in Florida. Ultimately nothing became of it, as it was reported months later that he was not under contract.
