| With the threat, or offer depending on your point of view, of Minkaro quitting XWA should he lose here, the XWA Intercontinental Championship is not the only incentive for Jaxson Phoenix in his debut XWA match. The two men stand across the ring from each other, each surveying the other with a casualness that masks the rapidity with which their minds analyse the others potential weaknesses. As the referee signals for the match to begin, the two start to saunter towards each other, raising their hands in preparation for the lock-up. However, Minkaro’s hands drop just before he reaches Phoenix, and he swings his right foot into the hip of his opponent, catching him off-guard and sending him side-stepping a brief way across the ring. Another kick follows, this time to the back of Jaxson’s left knee, causing him to sink down to a one-legged kneeling position. The third, and potentially final, kick is aimed towards the back of the head. Only aimed though, as Jaxson Phoenix anticipates the coming blow, and bows his head, causing Minkaro’s foot to sail over it, and the Englishman to end up unbalanced with his back to the crouched Phoenix. Acting swiftly to take advantage of this, Jaxson rises, moving forwards as he does so and swinging his arm in a clothesline that connects with the back of Minkaro’s legs, tripping him and causing him to land on his back with a thud. Continuing his forward momentum to return to his feet, Jaxson Phoenix flips backwards, landing on Minkaro with a Standing Moonsault. This earns him a mere one count, but does serve as a warning to Minkaro that his opponent is just as capable as he is.
Were arrogance a quantifiable commodity, the amount of it inside the ring during this match would likely set records. This is likely why Jaxson is confident enough to allow Minkaro to return to his feet, extending his hands in another offer at a lock-up, as if to say “it might work better for you this time if you accept.” With a scowl, Minkaro grips Jaxson’s hands with his own, and the two start the struggle, pitting their strength against the other’s. Possessing an additional fourteen pounds in weight advantage, The Lone Wolf finds himself with the upper hand in this battle, able to force Jaxson into a headlock position, which he uses to force him towards the ring ropes, bounding him off them and whipping him across the ring. When Phoenix returns, Minkaro swings a leg in the general direction of his opponent’s head in a Reverse Roundhouse Kick, only for Jaxson to duck under the move, allowing his back to meet the ring ropes once more In order to build momentum. As Minkaro’s foot lands on the canvas, the Chicago native dives forwards feet-first in a Baseball Slide, an unusual variant of the move as Minkaro is not outside the ring. Minkaro just about has enough balance to leap into the air, avoiding the move. When he lands, Jaxson Phoenix is already on his feet and charging at him again, aiming a dropkick towards his chest. A sideways step allows Minkaro to avoid this, Jaxson’s back thudding into the mat, and he flings himself forwards in a somersault, bringing the heel of his boot down towards Jaxson’s face, but missing as the other man rolls to one side. With both men lying near each other, the crowd applauds the exchange.
In almost perfect unison, both men arch their backs and return to their feet with kip-ups, spinning swiftly to face each other. The Human Hellstorm kicks towards Minkaro’s gut, but his efforts are in vain as Minkaro is able to catch the foot, shoving it downwards in order to bring Jaxson closer to him. Minkaro wraps his arms around Phoenix’s waist, standing up into what could potentially be a Northern Lights Suplex, had Jaxson Phoenix not anticipated the move and rolls through into a Sunset Flip style pin, but before the referee can count, Minkaro rolls backwards to his feet, Jaxson’s legs draped over his shoulders, allowing him to pull him up into a Powerbomb position. From here, Minkaro sends his opponent crashing down into a Powerbomb, before lifting him once more and completing his trademark Double Powerbomb. The match official begins the count, one…two…and Minkaro evidently feels that he is not going to be able to keep Jaxson pinned down for the third count, as he sees the need to lift him up for the third and final Powerbomb. However, the effort taken to lift his opponent up three times takes its toll on him, and Phoenix is able to wriggle free of the hold, landing on his feet in front of Minkaro, where he hooks an arm around his head, before bringing him down face-first into the turnbuckle with a Reverse STO. He grabs hold of Minkaro’s hair, using it to drag him further onto the second turnbuckle, where he kicks the rope so that it drives into the former World Champion’s throat, sending him scrambling backwards struggling to breathe.
Spotting Minkaro’s distress, Jaxson Phoenix decides to focus on further reducing his ability to draw air, by walking around him, and hooking one arm around his throat, and the other underneath his arm in a Dragon Sleeper. As Minkaro was in a seated position when the move was applied, Jaxson is able to gain more leverage on the hold. With his free arm, Minkaro clenches and unclenches his fist in a variety of positions, clearly hoping that luck will be with him, and his arm will close around the bottom rope just once. Unless he somehow gains superhuman stretching ability, this is unlikely, as the move is locked in close to the centre of the ring. Giving up on the idea of earning himself a rope-break, Minkaro starts to push his feet into the canvas, forcing himself up into a semi-standing position, although Jaxson still has the grip on his neck and arm locked in tight. Realising that he is not going to be able to force the Bionic Technician to submit at this stage of the match, and that keeping the hold locked in risks Minkaro finding an escape route, Jaxson decides to adjust his plan of attack. Releasing Minkaro’s arm in order to grab a handful of his tights, Jaxson lifts his foe up into a Reverse Suplex position, but instead of completing the move, he twists his body so that Minkaro falls across his shoulders in a Fireman’s Carry position. Those members of the crowd who have done their research on Jaxson rise to their feet in anticipation, knowing that his G2H move could be in the offing here. However, Minkaro is able to grab hold of the top rope as Phoenix carries him too close to it. This proves not to be the helping hand he hoped it would be, as Jaxson merely adjusts his body, and shoves him over that top rope, sending Minkaro crashing down to the arena floor below.
With Minkaro lying in a heap outside the ring, Jaxson Phoenix takes advantage of this opportunity to inform the XWA crowd that he does think very highly of them, all the while keeping an eye on his opponent to make sure that he is not going to launch a surprise attack. Once the crowd are riled to his satisfaction, Jaxson spots that Minkaro is slowly returning to his feet, and seeks to remedy this by connecting with a Suicide Dive. Unfortunately for him, Minkaro is able to side-step the dive, sending Jaxson crashing into the audience barricade. Minkaro is forced to ignore the fact that he hasn’t yet recovered from the fall, and the Dragon Sleeper before it, in order to try and capitalise on the crash landing. Dragging Jaxson to his feet, he wraps his arms around his body, before hitting a Belly-to-Belly Suplex that sends the debutant back-first into the side of the ring, the hard edge of the squared circle driving into his spine. For once, Minkaro listens to the referee’s instructions to get back into the ring, but only so the count of ten will be reset. Grabbing Jaxson by the arm, he pulls him up and slides him into the ring, following him in and going for a cover. There is a count of precisely zero, as the referee has to inform Minkaro that he has his feet under the bottom rope. With a grunt of frustration, Minkaro rolls Jaxson further into the ring, and covers him again, but the delay caused by his mistake means that Jaxson is able to kick out just before three.
Angrily returning to his feet, Minkaro starts to chase the referee around the ring, bellowing “IT’S A STUPID RULE, IT MAKES NO SENSE.” Without actually intending to, the referee guides Minkaro back towards Jaxson, who swings a leg out catches Minkaro on the back of the legs, forcing him down into a kneeling position. Returning swiftly to a vertical base, Jaxson connects with a backhand slap to Minkaro’s head to ensure that he is going to remain groggy, and then hits him with a stern kick to the chest, which causes Minkaro to rock backwards. Jaxson follows this with three kicks of a similar nature, all connecting with the chest, before he finishes the combination that he calls the Jaxson Five with a roundhouse kick to Minkaro’s head. The Twisted Mind (now even more twisted) begins to slump down, but Jaxson grabs him by the arm to prevent him from falling too soon. Taking a step back, he boots Minkaro in the face with a Superkick, in his Eclipse move. Now he allows Minkaro to fall backwards, and also allows himself to fall across Minkaro in a pin. One…two…thr…no! Minkaro just about manages to get the shoulder up! Although the lack of movement from him following his escape from the pin suggests that his actions were more out of instinct than a result of him still having his bearings.
Raising both hands into the air, Jaxson allows his palms to meet, forming a triangle. He accompanies this with a shout of “it’s over!” before hauling Minkaro up to his feet, and lifting him onto his shoulders in a second attempt at the Go 2 Hell. He lifts Minkaro into the air, but instead of the Shrewsbury native falling in front of him and down onto his knee, he instead manages to fall down behind Jaxson, before wrapping his arms around his head and bringing him down in the Zig Zag move known as The Arockalypse, a move that he has not felt the need to perform for some time now. Despite the impact of the move leaving Jaxson laying spread-eagled, Minkaro does not have the energy to follow it up with a cover, and the two men lie beside each other as the referee begins his count. @Jaxson Phoenix |
