They've done this process for years. They create a month long angle at most where there is tension, they split up and then both members proceed to do fuck all until they are fired or, lucky for some, are put back together...then still do nothing with them xD
If you don't have a plan to even attempt to get either members of a team over after the split, just don't do it.
