Well, you knew this had to happen: Pixar is bringing Toy Story back to the big screen for a fourth feature film. Variety reports that Disney head Bob Iger revealed the news during the company’s quarterly earnings call, revealing that John Lasseter will return to direct the fourth film.
Outside of Lasseter’s return and a June 2017 release date, Iger provided no details on the new entry. Toy Story was Pixar’s first franchise and has been their most profitable, with the three films grossing a combined $1.91 billion worldwide at the box office. Over half of that went to the third film, which was released in 2010 and grossed $1.06 billion worldwide. The franchise has also been consistently Pixar’s most well-regarded films. With Walt Disney Animation stepping up their game lately, Pixar is wanting to prove that they still have the ability to knock it out of the park.
