As long as there are no set-backs for Geno's tweaked ankle, Geno Smith will start at QB for the Jets in week three, which is widely considered the most important preseason game. It appears it's his job to lose.

Especially considering Sanchez has played so well. It's probably a situation where they want the fans to see how far ahead Sanchez is right now so they don't boo Sanchez and want Geno during the regular season...

Really don't expect to see Geno play well in this game, nor do I see him starting Week 1 no matter what happens, unless he just played unbelievably lights out. While Sanchez has made a few big mistakes, he's done pretty well, so I can't see them going with a rookie to start the season now unless his performance completely forces them to. They gotta give him a legitimate shot, or at the least have it appear that way, since they said it's a legitimate competition. I think that's why he's starting and there isn't too much more to it unless something crazy happens.

Ian's explanation must be the only rational explanation to this.

 


Wow, I somewhat doubt that, but I also doubt Geno earns the job honestly.

I'm glad he did that bad, though. He CLEARLY wasn't ready to start the regular season and it wouldn't have been good at all. Also, now I have no regrets or doubts about wanting Sanchez to start this season.

Side note: Matt Simms has looked REALLY good this pre-season. It's against the bottom stringers, though, so yeah, but he's looking impressive for what it's worth...

They had 7 wins last year with essentially the same team...

And that team was garbage. Some fans even want McElroy to start.

Honestly, they will probably be Oakland territory with Geno starting which is why I have not wanted him to start at all, all along. And maybe I should want that for a really good draft pick this year, but I don't because with Sanchez starting I think they're a decent team, and as a fan I want to see what they can do. I like the couple guys they've added on D and they have gotten rid of mainly guys who were old/slow/etc. at this point in their careers (except Revis, of course, but he was out last season anyway so I don't think that changes much for this defense).

Sanchez is saying he's fine. I hope that means he'll really be good for Week 1 or 2, cause the hit did look pretty bad but he did get up and off the field as if it looked worse than it really was.

Yeah, I totally praised Geno beforehand. I knew he wouldn't be good all along, minus a good finish to his rookie year that gave me some hope.

I really wish Sanchez never got hurt. He looked like he was turning a corner that off-season and then looked improved with the Eagles.
