Peyton Reed will direct Ant-Man, it has been announced.

Marvel revealed the news on their official website on Saturday (May 7).

Edgar Wright dropped out of directing in May, prompting rumours Adam McKay would step into the role. However, McKay will now contribute to the script instead.

Reed's previous works include Yes Man, Down With Love and The Break-Up.

Paul Rudd is to portray the Marvel superhero, while Michael Douglas will play Dr. Hank Pym.

Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Patrick Wilson are also among the film's cast.

Ant Man is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.
