The filming of Warcraft, the live-action movie based on Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft franchise, was completed today, said director Duncan Jones on Twitter.

"Final day on Warcraft now officially... wrapped," said Jones, who joined the project after Sam Raimi, the original director, moved on in mid-2012. Jones' previous work includes the sci-fi films Moon and Source Code.

Shooting on Warcraft began in mid-January. Blizzard showed a concept teaser during Comic-Con International 2013 last July, and then explained during BlizzCon 2013 in November that the film's story would focus on the Orcs-versus-Humans origin story. Warcraft is being made by Legendary Pictures, and studio head Thomas Tull said in a recent interview that the producers worked to include "big, universal themes" to make the movie relatable to audiences beyond the people who have played World of Warcraft.

Warcraft's cast includes Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, X-Men: The Last Stand), Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Precious) and Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger, Need for Speed). The film was originally set to be released on the same day in December 2015 as Star Wars Episode VII, but distributor Universal Pictures delayed it last November; it will now hit theaters March 11, 2016. According to Tull, the film will require about 20 months of post-production work.
