Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, the free-to-play space combat game from Disney Interactive, has been shut down following months of closed beta testing, the publisher announced today on the game's Facebook page.

"We want to thank all of the fans who participated in the closed beta of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons," the post reads. "After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences."

Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, which was announced last December on the official Star Wars website, was a browser-based space combat game featuring 16-player dogfights and a base-defense mode. Players had the ability to customize and upgrade their ships, which included the Rebel X-wing and Imperial TIE interceptor. The title was in development at Area 52 Games, which began closed beta testing in January.

A representative for Disney Interactive declined further comment beyond the Facebook post. We've also reached out to Area 52 Games, and will update this article with any information we receive.
