Original plans for WWE Raw did not have a tournament to decide a new number one contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The first round matches took place and PWInsider.com is reporting this happened because WWE did not get good news about the recovery time of Christian.

Christian suffered a concussion and has yet to be cleared to return. WWE had all plans going forward with Christian vs. Big E, but his injury forced WWE to change plans.
