Square Enix filed a trademark yesterday for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, possibly unveiling the title of the next game in the popular series.
Spotted by NeoGAF, the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided filing popped up on the Office on Harmonization in the Internal Market website (sort of the European Union equivalent to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office). No description was given for the Square Enix application, but it was registered under computer game software, printed matter and entertainment services, among other listings.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided most likely fits in the Deus Ex Universe, which was announced last year and spans various multimedia formats. When Eidos Montreal head David Anfossi discussed Deux Ex Universe, he also teased that the next-generation game was in production, showing concept art that "shows trans-humanism segregation, which is a backdrop to our vision for the next Deus Ex." This short detail lines up well with the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided title.
With E3 just months away, it's likely the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided filing points to the next console and PC entry in the franchise. But keep in mind Square Enix released Deux Ex: The Fall on mobile platforms, and with multiple format listings, it's hard to say exactly if this new listing will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Square Enix recently brought Deux Ex: The Fall to the PC, but it's unfortunately an awful repackaging. On a more positive note, last year saw the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution -- Director's Cut on consoles and PC, an improved version of the original.
