– The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling recently interviewed Jim Cornette, who discusses the current state of wrestling. Below are some highlights and an audio clip from the episode.

On if there is no longer a relationship with sports entertainment and professional wrestling: “I’ll never argue with that. It is definitely a bunch of athleticism. But it is a bunch of guys that are unfortunately risking their health and bodily safety for no reason. For no reason because nobody believes any of this sh*t anymore because of the ‘Corporate America’ and all of the writers, (the comedy writers) the jock sniffers as I call them that if they were caught in a men’s locker room would be whistling ‘Stranger in Paradise’. They get in and say, ‘well I can do this so much better’ and come up with these fantasy concepts and I can write lines for these wrestlers to recite. It’s horse-sh*t and unfortunately that’s where we are at these days.

“I’ve had so many people on Twitter that once again there cognitive abilities are impaired and they don’t understand what is going on and what is being said. They say oh well there is a news bulletin wrestling is not real, wrestling is predetermined. They think that I honestly believe that people don’t know that, of course I know that; that’s the point. The point is that people have been beaten over the head with the fact that wrestling is fake and that is why wrestling doesn’t draw anymore. That is why nobody gives a sh*t about wrestling compared to the ‘old days’ because they know it’s not only fake but they know how it is all done. If you didn’t know how it was done you could watch one episode of Lucha Underground and you could figure it out, because it’s as plain as the nose on your face right in front of you that that f*cking happy horse-sh*t is fake.”

Cornette on if the business has evolved to appeal to the mainstream fans: “In decades gone by almost everybody, although there were many exceptions but a large number of people knew that wrestling somehow had something going on. There was something predetermined. Something was happening but they didn’t know what, they didn’t know why, they didn’t know how and they didn’t know who and they didn’t know to what extent. I know Kriss Angel doesn’t get run over with a steamroller and flattened and get picked up with a spatula and fluffed back out but I can’t go on the internet and look at the blueprints for that trick so I don’t know how it is done. Therefore, it’s a hell of a thing to look at and I want to see it again.

“But when I read those blue prints and I see those plans and I see how it’s done and it’s not as difficult as I thought it was, I don’t give a sh*t anymore. So these stupid dumb f*ck wrestlers and promoters are allowing these stupid dumb f*ck writers to come in and sniff their jocks and tell them what to do and as a result all the credibility and all the mystery have gone out of the business and that is why and once again it is not the kids fault because they don’t bother to learn and they aren’t old enough to know that nowhere at any given point in history have fewer people watched wrestling on television, fewer people watched professional wrestling live, fewer live professional wrestling events have been staged and fewer people have been making money at professional wrestling then right now. Explain to me how that is evolution. That’s like the fish starts out with eyes and then becomes blind, it’s going backwards. Evolution is supposed to move forward.”

When asked for further comment, Cornette roared, before storming off to hunt a Triceratops.

You say he's stuck in the past but he helped position Ring of Honor to be the legitimate number two American Pro Wrestling promotion. Ring of Honor gets higher ratings than TNA and Lucha Underground combined. Oh and they can actually get people to pay to attend their show.

But I guess making money and a successful wrestling promotion is "being stuck in the past."

Lucha Underground is on a smaller network that is there only issue. If you put Lucha on a bigger network I am sure they can triple their ratings. Lucha Underground is different, its an alternative...a better one then TNA and ROH combined. he doesn't like Lucha underground because he doesn't get it because he believes everything should be how it was in the fucking 80s'. And ROH has been growing. They continue running more shows and pay per views each year. Plus they been able to keep guys signing with WWE.

I know you just want to ignore Ring of Honor's success because it's not that cartoon wrestling you love. But fact is TNA and ROH are the same age and one grew to the number two promotion in America. The other has problems drawing 300 people to it's show that airs on the old TV Guild Network.

Ring of Honor is about to go out of business. Unlike TNA which is Panda Oil's vanity project ROH needed to make some kind of money.

They lost their TV show on HDNet.

But Best In The World 2011 did record IPPV buys for ROH in a sold out Hammerstein Ballroom. That makes ROH so much money Cary Silkin is able to keep it open just long enough until Sinclair Broadcast Group buys the company. And who wrote the letter to SBG that they should work with ROH?

That's right Jim Cornette! And they loved his letter so much they bought the promotion.

Ring of Honor get a syndicated show that gets far more reach and viewers than when they were on HDNet.

In 2014 Ring of Honor starts running real pay per views. They had two that year.

In 2015 they had 4. That's double the amount of pay per views!

You know the TNA story. They'd be lucky to draw a crowd of 400 people that paid to see the show.

Lucha Underground doesn't even charge people to go to it's shows.

And he started OVW with Danny Davis. He sold his share of the company to Davis after his incident with Santino Marella. He didn't want to screw his friend with OVW's developmental deal so he left.

Lucha Underground probably know can't actually draw in people if charge people which would explain why the just let people walk into their shows for free. And why they never actually run live shows because maybe 100 people would show up. If that.

Their ratings are so low that with what they're spending on the show they get one viewer for every 10 bucks they spend. Maybe they can catch up to ROH if they spend $4,000,000

The attendance per town is way up (In some places doubled), within a year they'll have a national paid cable TV deal, their production is now modern, they've been able to match WWE's offers for talents (The Young Bucks and reDRagon.)... They've grown by a lot.

On this note, a different model would be better for them than what they're doing. They think they'll turn all the casual fans but they could have started off by grabbing the hardcore fans. If you Louis CK that shit for $8 a season (Digital download) and pimp out merch, you'd do alright... What they're doing now is a pipe dream.

Yeah he was so wrong when he helped Ring of Honor become the second biggest promotion in America. They actually are able to draw people to their show and buy their pay per views.

You on the other hand was all gun ho for TNA. I remember you bitched about Spike not supporting them when they chipped in the cash for their top talent and for their tv tappings when they went on the road.

Then you bitched at Destination America for being unhappy because they were losing money with TNA because they were unable to being the Spike viewers to DA. So DA took their escape clause because they're in the business of making money, not losing it on Dixie Carter's vanity project.
