According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, TNA recently made an attempt to contact CM Punk, using an intermediary. It’s being said they were prepared to offer the former WWE Champion a major contract, with money in the range of what Hulk Hogan was making during his run. He would have easily been the most paid star on the roster.

Ideally, TNA would like to hire CM Punk and use him as the face of Impact Wrestling going forward, building the entire show around him. Of course, a new contract with such a well-known star could also give the company more leverage in negotiating a new television deal for 2015. That being said, Punk has no interest in getting back into pro wrestling at this point.

Even if Punk wanted to return to wrestling the last place he would go is back to TNA

I think if Punk ever went back to TNA, it would be under the condition that he has full creative control over his character. I guess this is their backup plan since Del Rio said he wasnt wrestling in the States anymore.

That's like a Porsche being a backup plan to a children's tricycle.

It is going to take more then just Punk to fix TNA if they can get a tv deal. hopefully with WGN. Need a new creative direction, new marketing, maybe even new management.

Del Rio was their first choice, they were going to bring him in after BFG, put the title on him and make him the face of the company. When he said he wasnt coming back to the states, they now apparently shifted their focus to Punk. When you're limited financially, you can only go after one person at a time.

Either Punk and Del Rio would instantly be the best talent on the TNA roster.

With Del Rio working Wrestle-1 it sure SEEMS like TNA might be in his future.
