TYSON SMITH vs. RILEY WILLIAMSONXTREME RULES MATCH
XWA Hardcore Title
GRADER: KANITYSON SMITH: The first thing that stands out is the structure of your writing. It could do with just a little bit of a tune up, as I found you using a lot of commas where you could have broken the action up a bit and improved the flow. Despite the structural issues, I thought that the springboard moonsault into the counter and the following move was good, but it was a tad difficult to envision what you were going for with the fireman's carry into the torture rack. I can kind of see it, but it's a bit wordy and hard to follow. I think you should have made the light tube spot more of a big deal, really selling the brutal shot before the Shining Wizard. However, I do think that the description of the impact of the Shining Wizard was more like it. But, on the whole, your match would really benefit if you took a while to focus on selling. The action was good, though, and you managed to get an even spread between the two competitors, which was good to see. The Half Nelson Suplex on the outside was particularly brutal, I think, as well as the spot with the light tubes on the plywood board. There certainly wasn't a shortage of brutal moments in this match, to say the least, and you really used the stipulation to full effect. The finish was...well. Personally, I didn't like it, mainly because it followed the Powerbomb through the flaming table, and also, it's not really how I envisioned the match ending. I feel like sticking a firecracker in someone's arse isn't really the way any match should end, to be honest with you. I feel like this really let the match down.
RILEY WILLIAMSON: Your match started with some stuff I liked and other stuff I wasn't too crazy on. You had a fairly equal mix of good and not so good description and structure in the opening paragraph, but it wasn't anything that would strike me as being bad. Just maybe a little clumsy, is all. Your match was very verbose, but not too much. You spent a while going through the finer details, which is fine, but can sometimes seem a little bit overdone. You also had a few sentences that were a bit wonky as far as structure is concerned, and perhaps your selling can do with a bit of a tune up here and there. But it wasn't bad by any means. The action was pretty good, I thought it was good that you eased into the hardcore stuff with a bit of action in the ring, and some decent exchanges. Things spilled out to the outside of the ring, and you had some really good action here, even a little blood thrown in for good measure. It wasn't anything too crazy, but it was clear that things were starting to ramp up. I was a big fan of the Emerald Fusion from the top rope, too. Your match definitely picked up a lot from the early stuff, and you ended up writing some good stuff, with some nice hardcore moments throughout, particularly the Superkick onto the tacks, and in particular the ending was brutal. The barbed wire chair shots were really something that made me feel a little bit uncomfortable reading. Good match throughout, well written and with good action, despite the few issues throughout with structure and such.
VERDICT: I'm going to give this match to Riley Williamson, as I felt that all around he did better. That is not to say that Tyson turned in a bad match. There were just certain parts that let you down, but they will come with practice. Thank you both for showing, and congratulations Riley.
