I love Hulk Hogan. I don't want this fact to be lost. I am a Hulkamaniac, and I have been my entire life. There have been a few points where I got a little tired of him, or as a teen considered myself "too cool" for his routine, but I always come back home. Born in 1981, Hulk Hogan was all I knew as a kid. I grew up with him. I genuinely worried for him when he was attacked by the Bundys, Andres, and Earthquakes of the world.

There are many fans who hate the man, and hey, that's fine. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla- because you like shitty ice cream. I've heard and read it all as to why Hogan is disliked- he was inactive as a wrestling champion. He used backstage pull to keep himself on top at all times, and without thinking about who would be impacted by his decisions. People ask why guys like DiBiase, Roberts, or even Junkyard Dog couldn't get a quick title reign during Hogan's peak run from 1984 until 1991. None of that's ever mattered to me, however. I just love the guy.

His turn in 1996 as Hollywood Hogan reignited my Hulkamania, oddly enough. His whole WCW run was just so bad to watch, and I had really grown tired of him. The reaction from the WCW fans who had grown up hating him made it more difficult to watch him run over every heel on the roster with very little audience support.

It seemed like WCW simply wanted to recreate 80's WWF without considering any other factor besides "Hey, we got Hulk!" It was dreadful. But Hogan found a way to rebound and become the biggest heel in the business one more time. He always figures out a way to matter. It's that cockroach-like ability that drives his detractors crazy.

In 2002, when Hogan (along with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash) returned to the WWF, it was yet another great rebirth for the man who was unceremoniously booted from WCW in one of those Russo shoots-that's-a-work-but-it-turned-into-a-shoot deals. Kicked to the curb, he resurfaced briefly in the XWF, before getting another run with Vince's outfit. I was already worried that time had passed him by. We all assumed he'd have a match with Austin, but that'd probably be it. Instead, it was announced that he would face The Rock. I honestly didn't think Hogan could go with someone at The Rock's level at that point in time. But he again showed why he's had the career he's had, putting together a great spectacle (though not necessarily a great match) with Rocky that absolutely stole the show.

From there, we got one of my favorite moments of the 2000's, as Hogan defeated Triple H at Backlash to become the WWF Champion once more. However, the cracks would start to show, and his feud with Undertaker leading to that next month's Judgment Day featured some of the weakest skits and brawling you could ever hope to see. Sadly, the match was not much better.

From there, Hogan would be put on the shelf following a match with Brock Lesnar, and we wouldn't see much of him until he returned to have a rematch with The Rock at No Way Out 2003, followed by another great spectacle match against Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 19. Then came Mr. America, and Hogan slowly started to call it a career. He came back for quick one-off matches against Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam 2005, and with Randy Orton at the same show the next year. This, however, would basically be the end of Hogan's WWE run, as some behind the scenes beef with Vince led him to leave. We didn't hear much from Hogan regarding wrestling for a while, outside of the Hulkamania tour in Australia. Then, as 2009 was coming to an end, TNA shocked the world by announcing that they had signed Hogan, and he would be debuting on January 4, 2010.

This is probably where I'm supposed to say how I knew that was a mistake because TNA sucks and can't do anything right, but that's just not true. I was honestly excited to see what TNA and Hogan could do together. Would he pull in extra eyeballs? Would other talent want to go work for the company that has Hogan? Would other talent leave? I was honestly intrigued, and thought that it could be a good arrangement.

However, it wasn't meant to be. Things got off to a horrible start as the Nasty Boys, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and XPac were all brought in as well. The last three might be acceptable, but the Nasty Boys?! In 2010?? My goodness. I don't put this on TNA, either. I know Hogan comes with all sorts of demands and clauses, and I wouldn't be the least surprised to learn that "Give my friends jobs" was one of those rules.

Soon, though, I came to a harsh realization with Hogan during his TNA run: He has no business being involved in a wrestling match anymore. His fights with Ric Flair were atrocious, and his match with Sting at Bound For Glory 2011 remains one of my least favorite matches ever. Considering the participants and my usually undying love for both, this is quite an achievement.

I mean, credit where it's due- they tried. The two did everything within their limitations to provide an entertaining brawl, and I won't hate on them for that. However, it was really clear that Hogan shouldn't be wrestling anymore, and that Sting was probably not that far behind.

Which brings us to today. Hogan's being Hogan, working the media, and angling for possibly "one more match," whether it's against Lesnar, or Austin, or Cena, or who knows?

As a lifelong Hulkamaniac, this is, quite frankly, the absolute last thing I want to see. Hulk Hogan has no business being involved in a wrestling match anymore. I know, I'm just some jerk fan who doesn't know shit about the business, but this is what I believe. I don't want to watch Hogan stumble around attempting to keep up with Lesnar or Cena. I don't want to see him try to put someone over but have the match fall short. I especially don't want him to get injured in the ring. Remember when Paul Orndorff came back to WCW after retiring due to neck injury, and he ended up reinjuring himself while executing a piledriver to his opponent?

Yeah, I don't need to see Hogan try a legdrop and be unable to get back up. Like us fans have said since WrestleMania 24, "leave the memories alone." Hogan coming out and cutting a promo on somebody? Great. Hogan even getting involved in a physical altercation or two? Fantastic. Hogan entering the ring for a one on one match? No thank you.

I learned at WrestleMania 26 that sometimes you just have to know to walk away. While half of me loved watching Bret Hart finally beat the hell out of Vince McMahon, the other half was angry that this hadn't happened at least 10 years before. Vince was old, Bret's degenerated, and what we got was something that should have been so much better.

Hulk Hogan vs. John Cena is a match that should exist only in the brains of fans who want to fantasy book. Or play it out on a video game. In no way should Hogan vs. Cena headline any actual wrestling card in this age. There's just nothing to gain for either guy. Hogan's legend is set. Cena's status is set. A win for either does nothing. A loss does nothing, as I see Cena being able to shake off a loss to Hogan in the same way Shawn Michaels did. But let's be real here, Cena wouldn't be losing that match.

Which is really what hammers it home for me- if Hogan returns, he's losing. So we'd have to watch an old, broken down Hogan stumble through a match that he's eventually going to lose. Why do we want that? To verify that yes, Hulk Hogan is old? No thanks.

I really hope those with the ability in WWE can keep Hogan out of the ring. Nothing good can come from this. If they really can't help themselves, then throw him in a multiman tag where he can spend a good amount of time hanging out on the apron, come in for a hot tag, and then get out of dodge. Anything that requires him to do heavy lifting, however, should be taken off the table.

I love Hulk Hogan. I always have. I am not ashamed to say so. And as a lifelong Hulkamaniac, let me say it again- the absolute last thing I want to see is Hulk Hogan in a wrestling match again.

I read the whole thing, but I don't really care either way. I never paid much attention to Hogan tbh. I wouldnt say I dislike him, but I am not a fan. Still, the idea of Cena vs Hogan sounds like a huge dream match. I dont get how his match vs The Rock can be excused as "While the match wasn't very good, it was a great spectacle!" but a match with Cena couldn't.
