The Telegraph reports that the young homeless man that accepted Miley Cyrus' MTV VMA on her behalf Sunday is actually wanted by the police for arrest. Jessie Helt accepted the award for video of the year in her place to raise awareness about homelessness among young adults.
He said: "I've survived in shelters all over. I've cleaned your hotels rooms, I've been an extra in your movies, I've been an extra in your life. Though I may have been invisible to you in the streets, I have many of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight."
Before he was homeless in Los Angeles, he had an incident with police in his home state of Oregon. A warrant was issued for his arrest in November 2011 for a probation violation when he didn't report to his probation officer. He was previously arrested for criminal trespass. Police went to his home in Salem after his mother Linda said in an ianterview that he was flown back to be with his family after Cyrus gave him money for a plane ticket. He wasn't home and police left without detaining him.
In October 2010, he was arrested and told a police officer he broke into an apartment because the man who rented it sold him bad marijuana. According to Polk County, Oregon senior judicial services specialist Jon Troike, he pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and criminal mischief. He spent three weeks in jail and was sentenced to probation and drug treatment. He's still on the Polk County wanted list.
