UPDATED: TMZ reports that Rolling Stone has replied to Drake's complaints over getting replaced on the cover of the magazine. Sources claim that Drake was "ticked" because "he only did the interview if he was going to be on the cover."

Drake was interviewed on January 28 and the photo shoot was completed before Hoffman died on February 2.

A representative for the magazine said this regularly happens when musicians and actors die, citing examples of when Lou Reed and Whitney Houston died. Drake's group was told last Friday he wouldn't be on the cover when the magazine was released. It's unknown if Drake was offered a future cover.

Drake has since deleted his tweets about the cover and Hoffman.


ORIGINAL: Drake recently posted on Twitter that he was upset that his cover of Rolling Stone was changed in favor of the recently deceased Philip Seymour Hoffman. He started by complaining that he was misquoted about Kanye West's Yeezus, but quickly gave his feelings on the cover. He wrote:

I never commented on Yeezus for my interview portion of Rolling Stone. They also took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue.

No, it could be sopmeone I LOVE and I would feel the same way. Rolling Stone does what they do and with what happened it is to be expected, so it is more shame toweards him for not accepting it. if the dude hadnt died, Drake would have the cover, his bitching wouldnt happen, and this wouldnt be a story.

I've noticed a trend with all the rappers that are bitching about shit, like theyre entitled to things and what not.

[Update: Drake Issues Official Statement]

Since Drake deleted his tweets from Thursday morning, he decided to go to another platform and express himself. Early Friday morning, Drake took to his October’s Very Own blog to express his thoughts and apologize to those he may have offended with his mini Twitter rant. His official statement read:

Tough Day At The Office

With today being the 5th anniversary of So Far Gone I figured it’s fitting to return to it’s place of its origin in order to clear the air about an extremely emotional day. I completely support and agree with Rolling Stone replacing me on the cover with the legendary Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He is one of the most incredible actors of our time and a man that deserves to be immortalized by this publication. My frustration stemmed from the way it was executed. The circumstances at hand are completely justifiable (on the magazines behalf), but I was not able to salvage my story or my photos and that was devastating. They ran the issue without giving me a choice to be in it or not. I would have waited until it was my time because I understand the magnitude of the cover they chose but I just wasn’t given that option and that made me feel violated. I apologize to anybody who took my initial comments out of context because in no way would I ever want to offend the Hoffman family or see myself as bigger than that moment. I am still the same person. Today I was forced out of my character and felt the need to react swiftly. These days are the worst ones. Waking up after a great night in the studio and it’s your day to be picked apart. After dwelling on it for a few hours or days you will come to the conclusion that you brought it on yourself almost every time. So here I am having that moment. I once again apologize to everybody who took my cover comments the wrong way. I respect Rolling Stone for being willing to give a kid from Toronto a shot at the cover. I guess this is a day to learn and grow.
