- Recent TNA Titleholder A.J. Styles says he recently received threats from TNA's attorneys related to his planned U.K. speaking tour, which is why the tour was pushed back to later in 2014.
"We had something in the works, but then I got threatened by a TNA lawyer about some stuff that was going on - it was meaningless," Styles said in an interview with The Wrestling Mania podcast. "We were going to do that in March, but now we're looking at maybe coming over in June. The book should be done by then. So, it actually works out pretty good."
In the interview, Styles mainly talked about his TNA departure and spending most of his career in TNA. Styles said he thought he would retire in TNA, but "some times things don't work out."
Also not working out was TNA's attempt to take television on the road every other week in 2013. Styles said his main concern was a lack of awareness when TNA was in town.
"It wasn't a bad idea getting on the road doing shows. The problem is they weren't advertising that we were on the road," Styles said, adding that perhaps it was best to do every-other TV taping on the road.
"We did these buildings and they weren't even half-way sold out because people didn't know we were there. I remember staying at a hotel right across the street from the venue and they didn't even know that wrestling was in there that night. It goes to show that if you don't have someone getting out there, getting the word out there that you're in town, you're not going to do well."
Styles also talked about Spike TV wanting big names on the Impact show, which has contributed to TNA signing big-name stars throughout the company's history. Styles said he thinks the issue is that many of the former WWE stars that TNA signed couldn't "go" in the ring like a Kurt Angle or Christian, so their value quickly expired.
"With the homegrown guys, we were slowly building the ratings. My opinion is if it's not broke, don't fix it, but I think they wanted to see the ratings climb a little faster," Styles said. http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/TNA_News_1/article_75970.shtml#.UunMOPldXNk |
