I don't dislike Fairy Tail, it's actually the only big anime I've seen most of and continued to enjoy. Naruto simply lost me, I was a big fan for a while, and I still go back to watch the big fight scenes.  I think the real answer here is, I don't like anime that require long-term commitment to see the whole story.  I prefer 13-25 episode anime I can bingewatch on a day that I don't have anything better to do.

Is Tokyo Ghoul really that good? I've been considering watching it.

Tokyo Ghoul was probably one of the best anime this year, in my personal top three for the year (it had some tough competition too) so it's definitely worth the watch. From what I've been told the manga is even more brutal for those who enjoy that kind of stuff.
