Diving star Tom Daley said he "couldn't be happier" after revealing he is dating a man.
The Olympic medallist posted a video on YouTube in which he spoke for the first time about a relationship he has started with another man.

"I've never really had a serious relationship to talk about," he said.
"Now I kind of feel ready to talk about my relationships.
"Come spring this year, my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. And that someone is a guy."

The 19-year-old, whose father Rob Daley died in May 2011 from brain cancer, admitted the relationship had taken him "by surprise a little bit".
"It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen, but it wasn't until spring this year that something just clicked," he said.



"It felt right. My whole world just changed, right there and then.
"Of course I still fancy girls. But I mean, right now I'm dating a guy and I couldn't be happier. It makes me feel safe and just really does feel right.
"Is it a big deal? I don't think so.

"I wanted to say something and I feel like now I'm ready and I wanted to do it.
"People will think 'What will your dad say?' or 'What would your dad have said?'. He always said to me 'As long as your happy, I'm happy', and right now I couldn't be happier."

Mr Daley said friends and relatives he had told about his relationship had been "so supportive", although there were "mixed opinions" from some family members.
"Lots of them didn't believe it," he said.
"Lots of them wanted me to keep it quiet, some said 'Why don't you do a statement? Why don't you do a magazine cover? Why don't you do a TV interview?'.
"I didn't want to get my words twisted. I wanted to put an end to all the rumours and speculation.

"I'm still Tom. I still want to win an Olympic gold medal at Rio 2016 for Great Britain. I'm still as motivated as ever to do that."
Mr Daley posted a link to the video to his 2.4 million Twitter followers, with the message: "Got something I need to say...not been an easy decision to make, hope you can support me!"

Good for him. I don't think this should be news - would it be news if he was dating a woman?

Also Stinger, Tom Daley is actually quite known. I remember everyone always made a big deal about him at the Olympics.

Are any of those people actually relevant in basketball, football, baseball, hockey, ect? No. They are just bench players getting overhyped because of their sexual orientation. Example: Jason Collins. Scrub player nobody knew or cared about for over 13 seasons, comes out and suddenly gets guest spots everywhere. Now, Rugby is the only one I don't know about, since that has almost no following here in the states, but I know is big in Europe. So if one of those Rugby players are the real deal then kudos.

But as far as diving, figure skating (There are straight people who do it???), whatever the hell power boat racing is, and all those other "sports" listed on that wiki page, get outta here. I don't care if they are the Michael Jordan of their trade, they still would never be talked about if it weren't for the fact they're gay.

And Razor, get real. Are you really going to sit there and tell me some Bronze medal diver would get ANYTHING reported about him in a non-Olympic year if it weren't for this?

Diving is part of something called "athletics", which is watched by millions around the World...just because it isn't in like the two sports you watch, doesn't mean it isn't famous.

Football, baseball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, MMA, basketball. These are the sports I watch, I do watch all of the Olympics, but yeah, guess I must've missed those millions of people that follow the sport. Odd I haven't bumped into any over the course of my life outside of the people who actually did it.


@ Razor. So they talk about him around Olympic season, is it Olympic season? Would he ever have anything reported about him during a non-Olympic year ordinarily? The answer is an obvious no. Its only because he's come out. And its utterly ridiculous that every time some fringe athlete announces that hes gay (because frankly, its only typically the male athletes the media cares about coming out) it becomes a story.

And what "legit back up" am I suppose to bring? There would never be anything printed or reported about this guy if he hadn't come out. His non-Olympic accomplishments would never be reported because nobody cares about diving at any other venue. I guess the only "back up" I can give you is to look up all of the diving stories being reported by ESPN or another major network and tell me about all that you find. I have a hard time believing you honestly knew who this guy was without watching the Olympics, because the only other thing hes ever done was be on a British celebrity reality show as a trainer.

You know who I've always known about? Tom Daley. Ryan Lochte, and Michael Phelps, oh and Usain Bolt. Because everyone makes a huge deal about them. Oh and McKayla Maroney, cause she's a meme.

Out of ALLLLL the other people in the Olympics, I only know them and no one else. Why? Because they're KNOWN. They're STARS. They have FANS that make big deals about them so we know who they are.

Fine, you guys win. This dude is a household name and Diving is this generation's soccer. I'm sure this is just one of billions of other stories about him, all of which talking about his career accomplishments.



Although Razor, all of those other people you mentioned....ARE stars! As in, they won MULTIPLE GOLD medals (with the exception of meme girl, who I only vaguely believe I know). This "star"? One Bronze medal to his Olympic credit. But what do I know? Maybe 3rd place grants you a global following nowadays.

Or maybe he has a huge group of crazy girls (and now probably gay guys) that love him and plaster him around?
