The main event of Final Battle 20013 has been set by ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness. Adam Cole will defend his ROH World Championship against “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin! As previously stipulated, the man who could pin Adam Cole during the Champions vs. All-Stars match at Glory by Honor would become the #1 contender for the championship. Michael Elgin successfully pinned Adam Cole during that match to solidify his title shot at the Hammerstein Ballroom on December 14th at ROH’s biggest show of the year.

Since both Elgin and Cole were deemed “breakout stars” in 2011, their careers have taken similar paths. Since their breakout year both men have repeatedly competed in match of the year caliber contests. Their rise to the top collided in the finals of the World Championship Tournament at Death Before Dishonor just a few months ago. During that match, Michael Elgin appeared to have had Cole pinned to the mat, but the referee wasn’t in position to make the count. Michael Elgin himself and many ROH fans believed that the match could have ended at that moment. However, Adam Cole prevailed and was able to capture the ROH World Championship for the first time in his career.

In controversial style, Adam Cole blasted his newly won championship across the head of Elgin after delivering a super kick to former champion Jay Briscoe, who came to ringside to hand the title over. Jay Briscoe has yet to return to action following a serious injury that forced him to forfeit the World Championship. Jay Briscoe could not be reached to comment about this year’s Final Battle main event.

Will Adam Cole be able to successfully defend his championship on ROH’s biggest stage, or will Michael Elgin finally realize his dream of becoming champion? History may be against the champion, as Final Battle has had a history of crowing new champions. In 2004 Austin Aries ended the epic title reign of Samoa Joe at Final Battle. Two years later, Homicide captured the same championship from Bryan Danielson. Other historic Final Battle World Championship matches include an Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black time limit draw, Davey Richards vs. Eddie Edwards, and last year’s Ladder War between Kevin Steen and El Generico.

This year’s main event promises to be historic as two of the youngest and brightest stars in the world compete for the most prestigious World Championship in professional wrestling. Tickets are on sale now at ROHWrestling.com for the most important Final Battle event in ROH history. Don’t miss it Saturday December 14th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in the heart of New York City, tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by clicking HERE.

I just can't get behind Elgin in the main event scene, I don't know. Would have much preferred Ciampa/Cole. On a side note, I'm glad to see Cole bring his CZW/PWG gimmick to ROH. I can't wait for him to start with the "ADAM COLE, BABY!!"s.

Final Battle 2013 Empty
PostSubject: Updated Card   Final Battle 2013 EmptyMon Nov 04, 2013 4:37 pm

Updated Card.

Jay Briscoe is added to the main event.

ROHwrestling.com wrote:
ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness announced at The Golden Dream this past Saturday that the winner of the main event between Kevin Steen and Jay Briscoe would be inserted into the ROH World Championship match at Final Battle. After multiple distractions from Cole himself, and from Maria Kanellis, Jay Briscoe defeated Kevin Steen with a Jay Driller. As promised by Nigel, Jay Briscoe will now receive his highly anticipated title match at Final Battle on Saturday December 14th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in the heart of New York City.

The new Final Battle main event will see Adam Cole defend his ROH World Championship in a triple threat match against both Jay Briscoe and "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin! All three men have legitimate claims to being the World Champion and they will finally clash in New York City!

Adam Cole earned his ROH World Championship by winning the World Title Tournament after Jay Briscoe was forced to forfeit his championship. Briscoe was unable to compete for an extended amount of time after suffering a shoulder injury at the hands of SCUM before their departure from the company. Jay Briscoe did everything in his power to try to convince ROH officials that he could still defend his championship. Due to the length of his injury, ROH officials were forced to strip Jay of the championship. Then began a massive 16 man tournament that eventually crowned Adam Cole the new champion. He defeated Michael Elgin in the finals of that tournament in controversial fashion. At one point it appeared that Elgin had Cole pinned, but the referee was out of position to count Cole's shoulders down.

After Cole's victory, Jay Briscoe came to the ring to the present the championship to him "like a man." In cowardly fashion, Cole super kicked Briscoe from behind, and then went on to blast Elgin in the head with the championship belt. Being champion immediately brought upon a change in attitude to Cole as he's been doing his best to stay away from Michael Elgin. However, in the Champions vs. All-Stars match at Glory By Honor, Elgin pinned Adam Cole thus becoming #1 contender at Final Battle. And with Jay Briscoe's recent victory, he to has found himself in the same match.

To put it simply, all three of these men do not like one another. Temperatures were boiling in Cincinatti as Michael Elgin and Jay Briscoe had to be separated by ROH officials. The sight of both men brawling brought joy to the face of Adam Cole, who wasn't allowed to be touched because of a recent concussion he suffered in Chicago. Both Elgin and Briscoe dislike Cole for the same reasons. They both feel that they are the rightful World Champion. Jay Briscoe has taken it a step further and has had a championship belt personally made for himself that he calls "the real world championship."

Only one man deserves the right to be called ROH World Champion. At Final Battle we will find out which of these three men that will be. Will Adam Cole prove once and for all that he's a legit champion that can overcome any obstacle? Will Jay Briscoe win back the championship that he never lost? Or will Michael Elgin finally realize his dream and win the gold for the first time in his illustrious career?
And Tommaso Ciampa is challenging for The World Television Title.

ROHwrestling.com wrote:
At Final Battle Matt Taven will defend his ROH World Television Championship against "The Sicilian Psychopath" Tommaso Ciampa! At The Golden Dream this past Saturday in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ciampa became the #1 contender by defeating Jay Lethal and Mark Briscoe in a triple threat match. Matt Taven sat at ringside on commentary and watched Ciampa become his Final Battle opponent.

Since winning the Top Prospect Tournament, joining Truth Martini in the H.O.T., and defeating Adam Cole for the World Television Championship, Taven has become one of the most decorated champions in the history of ROH. His title reign is rapidly approaching a record number of days as Television Champion, and he's already beaten a long list of guys to retain his gold. Matt Hardy, Mark Briscoe, Eddie Edwards, Roderick Strong, and Jay Lethal are just some of the names that he's already had successful title defenses against. Taven looks to extend his record title reign at ROH's biggest show of the year.

Since returning from a career threatening injury last year, Tommaso Ciampa has made it his goal to capture ROH gold for the first time. Tommaso entered the ROH World Title Tournament after the title was vacated, and made it to the final four of the sixteen man competition. His goal of becoming World Champion was cut short when he suffered another injury in his match against Adam Cole. Ciampa returned at Glory By Honor where he won an impressive singles match against a debuting Jesse Sorensen. That win, and his advancement in the World Championship Tournament, earned him a shot in the triple threat match at The Golden Dream which he was victorious in.

Ciampa could be the biggest threat to Taven's championship thus far. Tommaso seems to be obsessed with winning gold and won't stop until he does just that. But Matt Taven's athletic skill, and the Hoopla that he brings to the ring, has been too much for anyone to overcome thus far. It's Taven vs. Ciampa one on one for the ROH World Televison Championship at Final Battle!

Card updated. The Young Bucks vs Adrenaline RUSH added.

ROHwrestling.com wrote:
Just announced by ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness, The Young Bucks will take on Adrenaline RUSH at Final Battle! This high flying matchup is sure to be one of the very best matches of the night on Saturday December 14th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. At All-Star Extravaganza V in Toronto, Adrenaline RUSH picked up the win in a three way tag team contest against The Young Bucks and C&C Wrestle Factory. After this surprising victory, The Young Bucks haven't been seen since in ROH. At Final Battle they return to avenge their loss to ACH and TaDarius Thomas.

The Young Bucks are currently on tour in Japan where they are part of the "Bullet Club" with ROH alumnus "Machine Gun" Karl Anderson. When reached for comment, The Young Bucks said "We're all about making towns. In New York City there's going to be a super kick party."

Will The Young Buck's brash personalities be too much for Adrenaline RUSH on ROH's biggest stage? Or will ACH and TD be able to humble the ROH veterans? A win against one of the most accomplished tag teams in the world might just put Adrenaline RUSH in contention for the ROH World Tag team Championships. Which team will become a step closer to the gold? You can't miss this one. It's sure to be an exciting "rush" as four of the most unique, fast paced, high flying wrestlers in the world are inside an ROH ring at the same time!

Card updated. Silas Young will wrestle Mark Briscoe in a Strap match!

ROHwrestling.com wrote:
Silas Young claims to be the “Last Real Man in Professional Wrestling.” That boast could be challenged by any of the ROH locker room, but no one fits the bill quite like Mark Briscoe. The road from Sandy Fork has been filled with blood and broken bodies - just the missing teeth alone prove Mark Biscoe ain’t no pretty boy! So it comes as no surprise that these two athletes have their sights set on each other as Final Battle looms.

It all started back at A New Dawn in Hopkins, MN when Briscoe took on Young in singles competition. Mark was the victor via Sunset Flip, but rather than admit defeat and shake hands (like a man…?), Silas Young attacked his opponent until referees and security dragged him away. Any other night, both men would have been kept separated by ROH officials until they cooled off and went home...but Hopkins happened to host the Honor Rumble with both Mark Briscoe and Silas Young officially entered! Tempers were still boiling as the match began, and once again it seemed Mark had the upper hand as he eliminated Silas and cost him an ROH World Championship opportunity. Furious, Young dragged Briscoe out of the ring - with the Honor Rumble still in progress! - and pummeled him, smashing him into the guardrails and leaving the scraps. Somehow, Mark Briscoe managed to WIN the Honor Rumble and received an ROH world title shot that same night. Briscoe would succumb to Adam Cole...but who can say how much the earlier attacks from Silas Young played into that defeat?

Silas Young and Mark Briscoe would get another opportunity to face each other at Glory by Honor XII in Chicago Ridge, IL. This time, the ROH record books will show Silas Young as the victor, but anyone who watched the match could clearly see that Young’s winning roll-up had an assist in the form of feet on the ropes for added leverage. Incensed, Mark Briscoe jumped on his opponent after the three count registered. The two brawled until Young deployed a tactic that would derail any real man - a low blow. As Briscoe staggered, Young grabbed ROH senior official Todd Sinclair and removed the referee’s belt. Using the belt, Silas whipped and battered Mark until officials and security were able to stop the attack, but the message was clear. After several heated matches and locker room attacks, Silas Young and Mark Briscoe must challenge each other once more in the ultimate battle of real men.

Card updated. Michael Bennett will wrestle Kevin Steen in a stretcher match! Lost can no longer use the piledriver.

ROHwrestling.com wrote:
Kevin Steen thrives on violence. His matches are vicious - and his Ladder Wars are legendary. As a testament to his brutality, Steen chooses to utilize the Package Piledriver. It’s already been banned from Ring of Honor in the past. But that’s Kevin Steen: he feeds on violence on chaos.

A year ago, Michael Bennett would have been the last person vying for Steen’s title as the resident expert on sickening, spine crunching destruction. The Prodigy had media appearances to worry about. But since he ditched his old nickname and his old trainer, Michael Bennett has transformed into a very different - very sadistic - man...and he’s been guided and encouraged by Maria Kanellis every step of the way. Now Michael Bennett has decided to showcase what has for decades been agreed upon as one of the most dangerous maneuvers in professional wrestling: The Piledriver. And he’s already ended one man’s career.

Maria Kanellis has been in major provocation in this escalating piledriver war. On the October 19 edition of Ring of Honor television, Bennett and Steen got into a confrontation - but Maria herself saw fit to lay her hands on the former World Champion. Obviously, Maria continued pushing her man to go after Kevin Steen. The very next week on television, Kevin Steen lost to Eddie Edwards. But that loss came AFTER Michael Bennett attacked Steen prior to the match and took him out with a piledriver, ultimately weakening him for his advertised television opponent. Not content to count that interference as victory, Bennett would attack Steen outside the bounds of a match again in Hopkins, MN. At “A New Dawn,” Kevin Steen defeated Jimmy Jacobs. Much to the approval of Maria Kanellis, the post-match celebration was cut short by Michael Bennett, who destroyed Steen with yet another piledriver.

Steen and Bennett would finally meet one-on-one in Chicago Ridge at Glory By Honor, but that match was far from a decisive end to the “Battle of the Piledrivers.” Technically, the record books will reflect a Michael Bennett victory. Yet the former Team Prodigy looked anything but victorious in Chicago thanks to a post-match appearance by Lisa Varon. Incensed by Maria’s constant interference, Varon drilled Maria with her Widow’s Peak and it looked like Kevin Steen finally had the upper hand.

If only Steen had left matters settled at Glory By Honor. Instead, at “The Golden Dream,” Cincinnati witnessed one of Kevin Steen’s most violent rampages. Michael Bennett declined to participate in his scheduled bout, stating via Maria Kanellis that he felt this particular event and match were “beneath him.” However, everyone in attendance quickly realized that by avoiding Cincinnati, Bennett also avoided any possible interactions - in the locker room or even the parking lot - with a raging Kevin Steen. Instead, Bennett hatched what he must have assumed was a failure proof plan: stay safe at home and let Maria interfere in Steen’s critical match with Jay Briscoe. The lesson learned in Cincinnati? Never underestimate the brutality of Kevin Steen.

Furious over Maria’s meddling, Steen grabbed her by the hair and dragged her screaming back to the ring. The distinction between male and female didn’t seem to matter much at that moment: Kevin Steen was ready to break Maria’s neck with a Package Piledriver if Michael Bennett wasn’t there to take her place. Security and referees swarmed the ring. They were finally able to get Maria to the backstage area unharmed, but not before Steen attacked multiple officials and hospitalized referee Paul Turner. As a punishment for this unconscionable rampage, Kevin Steen will not be in Dearborn or Columbus for this weekend’s ROH live events.

However...at Final Battle 2013, Kevin Steen and Michael Bennett WILL square off again. But this time, the Battle of the Piledrivers truly reaches its final stage. Whoever loses on December 14th will be BANNED from using the piledriver. After much deliberation, ROH officials have decided the only way to truly determine a winner in this match is to add one more stipulation. Steen vs. Bennett at Final Battle will be a STRETCHER MATCH. After months of trying to send each other to the hospital - or worse - Kevin Steen and Michael Bennett will finally have the sanctioned opportunity to find out which man is the true master of the piledriver...and which man will be leaving Final Battle on a stretcher.
