Getting conflicting reports about whether the Jets might pick a QB or not at 6, but man, if they do, they'll either roster 4 QBs again or they'll have to cut Bryce Petty.

This draft class is somewhat unique. Not rich in OL, DL talent, but deep in DBs and other positions.

There aren't a lot of O-Lineman, but I like a good number of them.

I think Cam Robinson and Ryan Ramczyk are both better than the media has been saying. League-average left tackle or better, and based on free agency that's worth $12M a year.

---

The real weak spot is DT. Had Vita Vea declared he'd be the top interior D-Lineman. McDowell is the only guy who can play on the inside consistently and be a ++ player. I like Jon Allen and Chris Wormley as base-ends that can kick inside too, but there are just no guys after that. Naz Jones has the physical profile of a guy who could be in that arch-type as well but he's super inconsistent.

Everyone really likes the Florida kid but he gets absolutely handled by the Bama RG 1-1 all game. He flashes athleticism but man, it's rough. Montravius Adams is like Nick Fairley on magic mushrooms. There are some plays where he looks like a first round 3-Tech but about 1/4th of all snaps he's pushed 8 yards down the field. Vanderdoes is a stud, but can't stay healthy. Dalvin Tomlinson is GREAT with his hands and will be a passable starter in the league, but he doesn't have much upside.

There are a couple of true nose tackles you can get late that I really like. The "bright side" of this DT class is there are three of four really good 2-down nose tackles.

---

Corner class is a mixed bag. Lots of guys, no sure bets. Sidney Jones was the cleanest prospect but he hurt himself at his pro day. Gareon Conley probably is the cleanest corner now, but he's a mid-tier CB1 at best. He's likely a high-end CB2.

Lattimore, Humphrey, Tankersley, Witherspoon, and Tabor could all be CB1s down the road but all have their flaws. Lattimore's hamstring is screwed. Humphrey struggles to find the ball and tends to grab, Tankersley is limited as an athlete, Witherspoon is a bad tackler, and Tabor ran a 4.77 at his pro day...

Really there is a lot of talent at Corner, but there are very few "sure bets" at Corner.

---

There are about 11 or 12 guys that I think could start as a rookie at Safety. This is a very, very good Safety class.

Jamal Adams is a "Leader of the franchise" type alpha male and an absolute stud at Safety. Can play either Safety spot. Legitimate top-6 pick every year.

Malik Hooker needs work as a tackler but he's special in the back half. He's a top-12 guy in every draft, probably top-7 in this draft. The best single-deep Safety in the class. He's a dream fit for San Diego at 7.

Budda Baker is one of the best nickels in the draft, but I worry about his value in base-set. He's just a guy in the back-end. If your team plays 60% of snaps or more in the nickel, he's a strong pick and will be a turnover machine. He's a 1st round pick.

Jabrill Peppers isn't quite as good as the nickel but he is very good at it. I think he's going to offer more value in the long-run in base as a Strong Safety, but a team might limit his snaps in the back-end while he learns how to play Safety. His versatility is going to be highly valued by NFL personnel looking to match-up with complex offenses.

Obi Melifonwu can play any position in the back-end, but NFL scouts worry he's soft. I think he'll probably get picked as a boundary corner by a team like Seattle.

Marcus Williams, Desmond King, Marcus Maye, Josh Jones, Justin Evans, and Eddie Jackson can all start right away in the NFL.

I actually love the idea of Obi at Corner here in Seattle. I'd be thrilled if we got him in the late 1st round. For a guy to be as athletic and to have the potential of a playmaker that he has, very special kid.

I can actually see this as a good class of corners. You have a ton of big Corners with great range that teams are going to like. I love Conley. I anticipate someone is going to grab him early.

This class is Safety heaven. I was having trouble coming up with the best 5.

I like Garett Boles BTW, his stock has risen, but I anticipate some teams will probably hold back and grab a more safe guy like Ramczyk.

Bolles is going to be a 25 year old rookie and he only just started looking good against top-level opposition in his age-24 season. Why didn't he perform better sooner?

He's proven he can bully kids younger than him. Kids for the most part who are still developing physically... What is he going to do at the next level?

I like Bolles as a left guard and a left tackle in zone, but I'm VERY skeptical about him.

Yeah, I actually did hear about his age being a factor in where he goes. He's probably going to need to put some weight on. I like him because of his athleticism and his good feet and smooth movement and his nastiness in the run game. Maybe he's bullying kids, I wouldn't be able to argue with you there as you have a much greater knowledge of college football than I do. I'm just looking at his measurables and his tape. I like what I see.

Official NFL Draft 2017 Thread Empty
PostSubject: Re: Official NFL Draft 2017 Thread   Official NFL Draft 2017 Thread EmptyThu Apr 06, 2017 7:47 pm

My original mock was longer, but I'ma keep this to one round...

1. Cleveland Browns - DE Myles Garrett

The best player in the draft goes first overall. Fits in at right end.

2. San Francisco 49ers - DE Solomon Thomas

Not in love with this fit and I think they're going to try to trade out, but it'll be hard to find a partner. Solomon Thomas will get a shot to play LEO but worst-case scenario he can two-gap from the 5-Tech and slide down to the 3-Tech on passing downs.

3. Chicago Bears - FS Jamal Adams

A "leader of the defense" type alpha-male with every skill you want in a Safety. Eric Berry is a fair comparison.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars - TE OJ Howard

Has a shot to be the best Tight End in football down the line. Flashes dominance in-line as a blocker and is an explosive weapon as a pass-catcher that needs refinement, not development. Think about the impact Travis Kelce has in the Kansas City offense, not just as the best pass-catcher, but as a game-changing blocker.

5. Carolina Panthers [TRADE] - RB Leonard Fournette

If Leonard Fournette is their guy, and I think he is, they won't wait behind the Jets if they can help it. Fournette has better hands than he's given credit for, and will develop into a weapon in the passing game. He'll earn his money as a down-hill runner.

6. New Orleans Saints [TRADE] - FS Malik Hooker

The Saints have three big needs in their three-safety defense. Defensive End, Free Safety, and Corner. Malik Hooker is the draft's best deep safety with elite ball-skills. I question his range to a degree - I think if he could test he would have underwhelmed - but he's plenty quick enough to be an improvement over Jairus Byrd, even if he never turns into Ed Reed.

7. Los Angeles Chargers - CB Marshon Lattimore

Everyone has him pegged for top 5, but it's been a long time since a Corner went that early and better prospects than Lattimore have fallen. Several people have his teammate Gareon Conley as a higher-rated prospect. Still, the Chargers have two smaller corners and could use a guy with ideal size to play on the perimeter to partner up with their duo.

8. Tennessee Titans [TRADE] - WR John Ross

A legitimate clear-out guy to keep defenses honest will take the Titans offense to the next level.

9. Cincinnati Bengals - OG Forrest Lamp

He's everything the Bengals look for in an offensive lineman. Experts are split on whether Barnett, Charlton, Harris, or someone else is the third best edge defender in this class, but most agree that Lamp is the draft's best lineman. (He's ranked 11th on ESPN) He can start right away at Right Guard, but could also be groomed for Left Tackle if Fisher and Ogbuehi don't pan out.

10. Buffalo Bills - LB Reuben Foster

A run-and-hit Will linebacker is exactly what the new-look Bills defense needs, and pairing back up with Reggie Ragland is an ideal off-the-field scenario for Foster, who has some question marks.

11. New York Jets [TRADE] - OT Garett Bolles

The Jets reportedly love Garett Bolles. I think every offensive line coach in the league will. He has a nasty demeanor and is a plus athlete, drawing comparisons to Joe Staley. Still, he's 24, and that might cause the Jets to take Cam Robinson here instead. He'll start off at Right Tackle and be groomed for the blind side.

12. Cleveland Browns - WR Corey Davis

If you were looking for a Wide Receiver to pair with Kenny Britt and Corey Coleman you'd probably imagine Corey Davis, even if you didn't realize it. He dominates the short-and-intermediate game and will create havoc after the catch. He does his best work out of the slot.

13. Arizona Cardinals - DL Jonathan Allen

It's "win now" mode for Arizona with Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald giving it one more go, so they'll take a risk on Jonathan Allen and his arthritic shoulder. With Calais Campbell leaving in free agency, their need is great.

14. Philadelphia Eagles - RB Christian McCaffrey

He's going to play all over for an offense that is willing to move him around and get all of the value out of his versatility. In space, he's one of the most dynamic players in college football history. He's like Reggie Bush if Bush had patience and vision as a runner.

15. Indianapolis Colts - SS Jabrill Peppers

At his best when everything is in front of him, but needs a lot of development as a deep safety. He can contribute as a Safety and a Nickel right away and he'll only get better with coaching and reps.

16. Baltimore Ravens - OLB Derek Barnett

The Ravens could take Cam Robinson here, but Derek Barnett will remind them of Terrell Suggs just a little too much to pass him up. Barnett is statistically one of the greatest college players ever, but tested poorly. Can he continue to win as a marginal athlete? Terrell Suggs did.

17. Washington Redskins - LB Haason Reddick

The immediate need at Linebacker is over after they signed Zach Brown, but a long-term need to improve at the position is still there. With McCaffrey and John Ross off the board, he becomes the best player at a position of need.

18. Tennessee Titans - CB Gareon Conley

The Titans don't have an immediate need at Corner after signing Logan Ryan, but the long-term need persists. Many people say Conley is a better prospect than Marshon Lattimore.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - TE David Njoku

I actually think the Bills are going to be interested in Njoku as an outside Receiver. In Tampa, he'll be groomed to be the long-term in-line tight end, where he has the potential to be top-8 at his position. He's a better athlete than Eric Ebron, but Ebron had more polish as a route-runner and as a blocker.

20. Denver Broncos - OT Cam Robinson

He'll start right away at Left Tackle, where the Broncos currently have Manelik Watson penciled in. In free agency league-average left tackles are worth $10M+, so why is Robinson not worthy of a top 20 selection? I think the media hasn't caught on to the value change just yet.

21. Detroit Lions - OLB Tyus Bowser

A do-over for an organization that wanted badly for Kyle Van Noy to turn into a three-down linebacker. Bowser is an elite athlete and flashed as a pass-rusher and in coverage. He'll slide into the Sam role in Detroit to pair with Tahir Whitehead and Antwoine WIlliams.

22. Miami Dolphins - DE Taco Charlton

Stephen Ross loves Michigan more than he loves the Dolphins, and this convergence of factors might give him a heart attack. The Dolphins have a massive long-term need at End, and Charlton fits perfectly.

23. Cleveland Browns [TRADE] - QB Pat Mahomes

The Browns find a trade partner in the New York Giants and move up to make their third first-round selection before the Texans or another team looking up can take "their guy" at Quarterback. The million dollar question is... who is their guy? I'm confident it's not Deshaun Watson, who will die in their analytic analysis. I think their analytics will probably also take them away from Mitch Trubisky. That leaves Kizer and Mahomes, and I'm leaning toward Mahomes, who profiles as a Matthew Stafford type passer. Right now he's horribly flawed and works better outside of structure, but Hue Jackson will like the challenge and the potential reward.

24. San Francisco 49ers [TRADE] - QB Deshaun Watson

Conversely, Deshaun Watson is exactly the kind of passer that Kyle Shanahan will have a lot of confidence in. He's elite pre-snap and while he has physical limitations, Shanahan will believe he can scheme those deficiencies out. He's a natural leader and could be the kind of guy you want to build a franchise around.

25. Atlanta Falcons [TRADE] - DE Takkarist McKinley

The Falcons only really have two needs: Defensive End and Right Guard. Will they wait at 31 and try for Dan Feeney? I think it's more likely they move up for their choice at Defensive End.

26. Seattle Seahawks - CB Kevin King

I've gone back and forth between Kevin King and Obi Melifonwu here. Point is, I think it'll be a big corner.

27. Kansas City Chiefs - QB Mitch Trubisky

Andy Reid gets Trubisky to groom behind Alex Smith. For me, Trubisky's comparison is somewhere between Chad Pennington, Andy Dalton, and Brady Quinn. Take that for whatever you will. I think he's the only guy I'd bet on to be a guaranteed 30-game starter in the league. A team could do a lot worse.

28. Dallas Cowboys - CB Marlon Humphrey
29. Green Bay Packers - OG Dan Feeney
30. Pittsburgh Steelers - OLB Charles Harris

I really liked him on film. I think he's better than Shane Ray. He didn't test as well as I expected, but I still think he'll go early. He's a really good fit for Pittsburgh's 3-4. Some scouts are worried about him as a three-down 4-3 end because of his narrow shoulders.

31. Houston Texans [TRADE] - OLB TJ Watt

Not just the Watt-connection, the Texans have a huge need at drop linebacker in their 3-4. John Simon signed with the Colts, and Brennan Scarlett is currently penciled in as the starter. Yeah, I've never heard of him either. Watt is a perfect fit in this role, and the family connection doesn't hurt.

32. New Orleans Saints - DE Carl Lawson

Carl Lawson would be a top-10 pick if he had been more durable in college. If an NFL team can get him healthy, they'll get incredible value.

I'm not sure Kevin King is a 1st round prospect BTW, I've seen many people mock him there. Do you think he's a 1st rounder?
