If you see someone sailing the seven seas in a yellow submarine in the forthcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, chances are good it’ll be Paul McCartney. Deadline is reporting that the 73-year-old Beatles legend is taking part in additional shooting on the fifth film in Walt Disney Pictures‘ lucrative series, with an all-new set piece added specifically to showcase his character.
While there’s no official indication of who McCartney is playing, it is no doubt a play on Jack Sparrow’s poppa having been played by Keith Richards, guitarist for The Beatles’ British Invasion rivals The Rolling Stones. Could he be playing Sparrow’s Uncle? Will Turner’s grandfather? A totally new character? For what it’s worth, this will be McCartney’s first time playing someone other than himself onscreen, as he’d done in musicals such as A Hard Day’s Night, Help! and Give My Regards to Broad Street. He most recently voiced himself in an episode of Netflix’s “BoJack Horseman.”
