It is often misquoted. I know Dave isn't perfect but a lot of what he says is skewed by other wrestling new sites.

Last year was a bad year for breaking news for him. Dave wants to get three sources to confirm a story before he say something. So PWI and MLW have been beating him to the punch on stories.

But Dave always seems to get more shit when he gets something wrong. And he should but he's held to a higher standard than everyone else. I think it says a lot because a lot of people do go to The Wrestling Observer for their news.
