Sony has unlocked more of PlayStation 4's CPU, providing additional power for developers.
According to the latest changelog notes for the system's FMOD audio middleware, which were posted on the Beyond3D forums, the seventh processing core of Sony's home console has been unlocked. "PS4 - Added FMOD_THREAD_CORE6 to allow access to the newly unlocked 7th core," the notes read.
According Eurogamer, its contacts have confirmed more processing power has been unlocked and is available for use by game developers. That said, the outlet also notes existing games won't have access to the added CPU power unless the title is updated with a patch to add support.
We've reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story as soon as we receive a response.
Earlier this year, Microsoft did something similar for Xbox One, opening up access to 50 to 80 percent of the console's seventh processing core, providing more power for game developers to work with.
