Empire Magazine has premiered its 6 variant Star Wars: The Force Awakens magazine covers on its website, Empire Online. The magazine is scheduled to go on sale next week, and the variants aren't simply static images, but instead are presented in lenticular 3D. All 6 variants can be seen on the Empire Online website, but we're featuring 2 of them right here.



Our first impression of Kylo Ren came not from seeing his face, or rather, his masked-face. In fact, we didn't see much of him at all when the first trailers dropped. All we could see was a clearly-evil, shadowy figure who could have been anyone. Once he lit his lightsabre, however, it was apparent that this was a warrior of the dark side of the force, and he was wielding a weapon unlike anything we'd seen before. We know Kylo Ren is not a Sith, but instead works for Supreme Leader Snoke, a powerful figure of the dark side.

His saber is interesting beyond its unusual design. Even in the still image of the Empire cover, it seems to crackle with an unstable energy, unlike the smooth beam of the lightsabers of other Jedi and Sith.



John Boyega is playing Finn in the upcoming movie, a character who we first saw wearing a stormtrooper uniform. Subsequent reveals have downplayed his role wearing the uniform of the First Order Stormtroopers, but in the latest Force Awakens TV spot, we see Finn wielding a blue lightsaber. The trailer starts out with Finn saying "You don't know a thing about me," which is 100% true. But he sure seems to know how to swing a laser sword.

Boyega told Empire that the first time he held the lightsaber for the movie, "the clouds open up and the white doves come flying down." Given the fact that his lightsaber more than resembles the one used by Luke Skywalker, it would be hard not to feel like holding it makes you part of something bigger than yourself. The photo on the cover looks like the area from the first trailer in which we're introduced to Kylo Ren.
