Star Wars creator George Lucas is defending his decision to change up Han Solo's encounter with Greedo in Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope.

Originally, Han shot Greedo first in the Star Wars film, but Lucas altered the scene with the Special Edition release of the movie in 1997. As such, Han blasts Greedo after the Rodian bounty hunter takes a shot at him first.

Lucas told the Washington Post that he revised the scene because Han isn't a murderer. He explained: "Han Solo was going to marry Leia, and you look back and say, ‘Should he be a cold-blooded killer?’

"Because I was thinking mythologically — should he be a cowboy, should he be John Wayne? And I said, ‘Yeah, he should be John Wayne.’ And when you’re John Wayne, you don’t shoot people [first] — you let them have the first shot. It’s a mythological reality that we hope our society pays attention to.”

This isn't the first time Lucas has opened up about the "Han shot first" debate. Back in 2012, the filmmaker actually said Han never shot first at all.

Actor Harrison Ford has also been questioned about the controversial change, and he responded in the most Han Solo way possible. During a Reddit AMA last year, he said, "I don’t know, and I don’t care."
