- The Heatseekers made history this past weekend, winning the NWA World Tag Team Titles. Sigmon and Elliott Russell became the new champions in a three-way match that took place Saturday, October 9, at an NWA Mid-South event in Dyersburg, TN.
The match involved the previous champions, Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith, Jr., the Killer Elite Squad. The other challenging team consisted of Chris Richards and Chase Owens. Despite such formidable competition, Sigmon and Russell left with the championships, adding their names to a proud lineage of title-winning teams that includes the Rock 'n' Roll Express, The Dudleys, Steve Austin and Brian Pillman, Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes, and Public Enemy, among many others. This is the first world championship reign for either wrestler, both of whom hail from East Tennessee. "The Wrestling Extraordinaire" Sigmon is a native of Knoxville and a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate. With more than a decade of experience in professional wrestling, Sigmon has held multiple championships including a reign with Russell as NWA U.S. Tag Champions that lasted from December 2014 until June of this year. Russell hails from Morristown, TN and by all accounts is the first Morristown native to win a major recognized world championship. After a standout career as a football player in his hometown, he entered the sport of professional wrestling, where he has three years' experience.
