| Despite recent reports that Konami is scaling back its efforts in the console space, the Japanese publisher has come forward to deny such claims, while also speaking to the viability of the Metal Gear Solid franchise without series creator Hideo Kojima at the helm.
In an interview with Game On Daily (via Videogamer), Konami community manager Graham Day was asked whether or not the Metal Gear franchise could continue with Kojima, to which he replied: "Yeah, course it can. Metal Gear is about the story, it's about the characters and I think, yeah..."
Day then cited the studio's collaboration with PlatinumGames as a successful use of the brand. "Look at things like Metal Gear Rising. That was an example of the title being taken in a new direction by separate teams with obviously hands-in from other parties," he said. "And that was in itself a very, very good game as well, and that was obviously led by a completely different team."
With regard to Konami's commitment to making more triple-A console games in the future, Day confirmed that Konami's stance has not wavered. "Don't believe everything you read in the press," he said. "That's never changed. Things have been taken out of context but that's never changed."
Do you think the Metal Gear Solid franchise should continue even if Hideo Kojima isn't at the helm? Let us know in the comments. |

| I'd play Castlevania on my phone tbh. Something like Harmony of Despair where it's mission based, wouldn't be awful if they didn't overload it with microtransactions. |

| ^ Yes, but I'm referring to them trying to continue it as a series for mobile. I suppose I should have used more that three words |

| I know, I know xD
I'm sure we'll get an influx of God awful iOS/Android card games based on Metal Gear and some further terrible version of the turn based Metal Gear Acid lol.
What worries me really, though, is they are using Metal Gear Rising as an example of where this franchise can be taken. Now I never finished Metal Gear Rising and played probably a third of it at best, but that wasn't a 'very, very good game'. It certainly wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't THAT good. Literally the first thing you do is battle Metal Gear Ray, which is all fun etc., but the whole point of the Metal Gear Games is to lead up to an eventual large and significant (not necessarily final) battle with a Metal Gear. Rising was just littered with stupid characters <_<
I also imagine they'd be all like "HEY! Solid Snake is actually fine! He also suddenly went back to looking in his 30s again and also Liquid never died either. Fuck it, Big Boss has 15 robotic arms too and Ocelot has morphed into an actual Metal Gear. ENJOY!" <_< |
