Nintendo has now sold more than 7 million Amiibo toys in the United States alone, the company revealed as part of the NPD Group's August sales report. The "toys-to-life" figures, which are compatible with a number of Wii U and 3DS games, launched in June 2014 and have become something of a phenomenon.
On a worldwide basis, Nintendo had sold 14.7 million Amiibo toys by the end of June 2015.
By comparison, Activision has sold more than 250 million Skylanders toys worldwide since the franchise debuted four years ago. In all, the Skylanders series has generated $3 billion for Activision.
In other Amiibo-related news, Nintendo announced at the end of August that Shovel Knight, the eponymous lead character of action-platformer Shovel Knight, is getting his own Amiibo later this year. This marks the first time a third-party game has gotten its own Amiibo.
