The Coach revival is not moving forward at NBC after all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has opted to cancel the straight-to-series follow-up, which was to have Craig T. Nelson reprising his role from the original series.

The trade adds that the series was going to pick up 18 years after Coach went off the air in 1997 following a nearly 200-episode run. “Nelson’s beleaguered football coach has now retired and is called back to become the assistant coach to his own grown son, who is the new head coach at an Ivy League school in Pennsylvania that is just starting up a new team.”

13 episodes were ordered and would have starred Andrew Ridings as Hayden Fox’s (Nelson) son. Original star Bill Fagerbakke was going to reprise his role as Michael “Dauber” Dybinski.

The comedy had just started production. Barry Kemp, who created the original series, was attached to write the NBC follow-up and executive produce the Universal Television series with Nelson.
