The 69-year-old actor - who played Edmund Blackadder's servant and sidekick Baldrick in the British historical sitcom - admitted he has spoken to his former castmates about a reunion.

He told The Sun newspaper: ''I do think a new series of 'Blackadder' is on the cards. I have spoken to virtually all the cast about this now.

''Expectations for a new series will be high because people not only remember the original; they remember who they were when it was on. It's a big danger.''

However, Tony joked that the only problem would be trying to find the money to pay Hugh Laurie's wages as the actor is believed to have earned £250,000 an episode for his US TV show 'House' - which ran from 2004 to 2012.

He quipped: ''The only problem is Hugh's fee. He's a huge star now - or so he'd like to think.''

'Blackadder' starred Rowan Atkinson in the title role, along with other stars including Tim McInnerny, Stephen Fry and Miranda Richardson.

Richard Curtis and Atkinson co-wrote the first season of the show with Ben Elton joining Richard as co-writer for the subsequent episodes.
