The cameras cut from Matthew Bradley’s promo to a close up on Brian Johnson, XWA Interviewer Extraordinaire. Brian wears a cheesy smile as he raises the microphone up to his mouth.
Brian Johnson: Reluctantly, my guest at this time, making his return to the Xtreme Wrestling Association, Greg Samuel!
Despite a less than stellar introduction from the brash interviewer, the crowd immediately gives a loud, welcoming ovation to one of their favorite veterans of the company. The camera zooms out to reveal “The Maine Attraction.” Samuel has shaven his normally stubble-ridden face. Samuel wears his dark gray and green ring attire with his new matching entrance jacket, which resembles the jacket that Caleb Spires used to don in his ring entrances. The crowd-favorite has a big smile on his face as he puts his around the shoulder of Johnson and shakes him around a little bit. Johnson’s face shows his disapproval of the situation.
Greg Samuel: Kansas City…
You’d think Mick Foley was in the room with how cheap that pop was.
Greg Samuel: Great to be back here, both in the beautiful state of Missouri as well as my home, the XWA!
Brian Johnson: Did you get something on your nose?
Greg Samuel: Excuse me?
Brian Johnson: Uh, nothing. So you’ve made your return to the XWA, for what, your fifth of sixth time?
Greg Samuel: I know, I know Harry… I’ve been gone and back and gone and back, but you have to understand. Dealing with a COO like Smoke Xtreme is not exactly easy. He’s a tough guy to get along with. And let me say, seems like there may be some nepotism going on here. Because unless I’m wrong, and believe me, it has happened before, Razor and Smoke have the same last name. And that tells me one thing, Razor didn’t have to partake in his normal rituals to get a world title shot this time. It must feel good to be able to use the knee pads in the ring instead of for a different occasion this time.
Samuel removes his arm from Johnson’s shoulder. The brash interviewer adjusts his suit coat.
Brian Johnson: Tonight, in your return match, you face off against the undefeated Matthew Bradley, any words on that?
Greg Samuel: It’s impressive, it really is! I went two matches before losing one here, he has been on it, what, three months? That’s not something to take away from the guy. Here’s the thing, I’ve been around this company for five years, and this isn’t the first undefeated streak I’ve come up against. If you’ll think back to 2011, my second year in the company, I ended the undefeated streak of a certain TJ Thunder. Matthew, I’ve been throwing undefeated streaks down the toilet since way before this company cared one bit about who you were. And tonight, they’ve added the extra incentive of a Number One Contendership match to the winner… All I’m going to say is, you’re going to have to put me in the hospital if you expect to beat me tonight.
Samuel walks away, right past the camera on his way out to the entrance area for his match. Brian Johnson rolls his eyes, glad to be done with that interview.
