Last week it was revealed at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo that former WWE Champion CM Punk will make his return to the world of comic books, following the success of his first ever book, THOR ANNUAL #1, earlier this year.
Punk has officially signed on to co-write the first ever solo run of Drax the Destroyer, a super heavyweight fighting monster from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Somewhat ironically, this was the same character played by fellow ex-wrestler Dave Bautista in the blockbuster 2014 film.
Marvel comics editor Jon Moisan said he “couldn’t be more excited”.
“CM Punk has proven that he’s the best in the world in the wrestling ring and now he’s out to prove he’s the best in the Marvel Universe. How could you not want to read this book? I couldn’t be more excited for readers to see what Punk has in store for Drax the Destroyer!”
We’re not certain if this is cover art for the first issue, set to release later this year, or just some fun concept art to promote the collaboration. Either way, note the Punk-inspired ring trunks, hand wraps and UFC-style “Intergalactic Fight Club” octagon in the background. Also Colt Cabana.
