Former WWE writer Kevin Eck has posted a new blog over at SportsBlog.com, commenting on the current state of the Divas divisio and the recent #GiveDivasAChance movement.

During the blog, Eck says with the retirement of AJ Lee and Paige being written off TV for awhile, the fans have been left with no “hero” of the Divas division.

Eck then shed some light on how WWE instructed the writers to portray the Divas during his time a creative team member.

“During my time on the WWE creative team, we actually were told that there really are no babyfaces or heels in the Divas division. It was strongly implied that the Divas are all just a bunch of catty chicks, most of whom are mentally unstable.

A perfect example of that philosophy was the booking of the program between AJ and Paige last year. Instead of establishing a babyface and a heel, both characters acted heelish.

Their “frenemies” angle was more confusing than compelling. Thus, the rivalry between one of the most “over” Divas of all time and a heralded newcomer to the main roster wasn’t nearly as good as it should have been.

The audience needs someone to root for. It’s really not that complicated.”

That stereotype.

Next Divas' gimmick match will be a "Fight For That Skirt Fatal Four Way Lumberjill" Match, where, instead of a hanging title, the 4 contestants will have to earn the right to purchase the clothing piece that's gonna be hanged there.

He's not wrong, though. The division has been pointless for years and the characters have no point to them at all. One week a diva can be heel and bam, next week, she's randomly a face. Then we get a battle royal and everything is right with the World.

I always like the way creative has a lot of these Divas hanging out with each other in promos. Why? Just because a bunch or "heel" that week, doesn't mean they all need to be fucking friends. You don't see that with the superstars really, unless it's a stable.

Start booking them like actual talent, instead of a sideshow act...and giving them a few more minutes each week doesn't mean shit if it isn't used properly.

That should honestly the tag-line of Total Divas.

But no, that "no hero in the Diva division" thing is weak. I'm really surprised they turned Naomi heel; she's a great athlete, very entertaining to watch, and someone the crowd, especially younger fans, can easily get behind. And I can't remember the last time WWE had a black woman as Women's Champion (Jazz? Indifferent ).

There's also Natalya who, just like every other member of her family, is as much of a mark for pro wrestling as her fans are. She buys into the "Diva's should be a role model for young girls" attitude herself... so give her the chance to be that role model.

If WWE actually put any effort into this division, it would certainly be worth it. It's sad that WWE gave more of a shit about their female performers when they were doing Playboy pictorials than they do now. Neutral

The booking of the divas is insulting, and it's not hard to see why with insights like this. This mentality is so confusing to me. There's a lot of talent in the division right now, and even more waiting in the wings on NXT (where the women are booked fantastically). It's a shame that, no matter how talented you are, a woman in WWE is going to be shoved into the crowd as just another "catty" and "mentally unstable" chick. face palm
