XWA Vendetta returns from commercial break and the atmosphere in the Verizon Center is absolutely electric, the fans cheering wildly even as Van "The Plan" Scarburough was up high on the second rope, raising his fists in the air like Stone Cold Steve Austin, the crowd taking to Scarburough favorably with no real reason to boo him mercilessly, at least not yet.  As Van’s theme song fades out, mostly generic pop, we cut to James Best, by the ringside and rolling his wrists by force of habit, “The Best Seller” glaring at the youngish rookie as if this were the most personal match in the world.  With the introductions of “The Plan” done with, James rolls back into the ring and immediately stands nose to nose with his somewhat upbeat rival in an intense stareoff. While this is their first confrontation in a wrestling ring, the stakes involved (automatic entry into the #1 Contenders Match at Redemption) made it impossible to go anything below one hundred, despite the fact that James Best was barely pushing fifty, having undergone a steel-riddled hell just seven short days prior in a Triple Threat Ladder match.  Still and all tonight sees a banged up James Best take on a hungry, and most importantly fresh Van Scarburough, an impressive young stud coming up in the ranks with impressive victories.  The long haired Scarburough flicks his hair back and shoots James an arrogant wink, mocking his conditioning as he performs a series of leg stretches on the ropes.  The rookie Van shoots James an arrogant wink as he performs a series of leg stretches on the ropes. The “Face” smiles back at Van sarcastically, turning his back on Scarburough with a noticeable wince, taking a deep breath before turning and stepping into the middle of the ring.  The referee flags his arms for the ringing of the bell and it is GO time!

 DING! DING! DING!

The Verizon Center erupts with an excited cheer as James and Van circle around one another with a spring in their step.   With the stare-downs behind them, both James and Van come together with a dramatic clap, in a contest of strength, pushing back and forth taking turns, and control, respectively, coming to a stalemate in the middle of the ring and James Best breaks off with a frustrated grunt, stepping away from Van with his hands on his hips, Van Scarburough watching him on and exercising his wrist shaking his fingers before both men lean into one another and again plough ferociously, only this time Van drops James to the mat with a Cross Armbreaker.  James wildly thrashes free and both men scramble to their feet, Van Scarburough dashing at Best for a clothesline only James flips him on his back with a hip toss!  Van is quickly back on his feet, dusting his tights off and rushes James yet again in the exact same fashion, and just like before James hooks him up with a hip toss, only Scarburough pumps his pelvis and attempts to throw James with a hip toss of his own, quickly countered by James with a snap mare straight into a chin-lock, rolled into a clever pin.  1.2.  Both men scramble on the mat in a race to stand first, James sweeps the leg from right under Van, rushing Van only to be thrown right over Van courtesy of a hands-free monkey flip from the quick-thinking star, James finds his feet and immediately spins on a dime for a clothesline only Van Scarburough uses his unique positioning to twist James into a hammerlock, jerking James arm up behind his back almost unnaturally, helping himself to grab James hair in a fistful and violently slam him backwards with a mat slam.  James rolls on the mat in absolute fury, snarling in the air and clearly mouthing the word “Motherffff” as Van Scarburough simply stands there in stunned silence, his eyeballs lit up with his hands out submissively, turning a blank stare to the referee, then back to James and slowly shaking his head.  “Jesus you could have broken his damn arm, kid!!” The referee exclaims to which Van simply replies “Oh.”

James reaches up to grab the ring ropes, clutches his arm tightly and heaving himself up only Van Scarburough draws him onto both feet, striking him with a big chop aimed deliberately at the shoulder!  James howls and stumbles by the ring ropes, “The Plan” treats himself to James chest with a second dramatic chop to the shoulder area, taking Best and slinging him with an irish whip, James turns the tables with a counter whip of his own, only to abruptly fail as his arm betrays him and scream aloud in anguish, Van seizes the momentum to snatch James up in a front facelock, thinking DDT yet James drives Van directly into the corner of the ring hard!  Scarburough lowers, and James backs up quickly, still clasping hold of his arm he hobbles backwards and runs right at Van in the corner for an immense dropkick, Van drops to one knee and James points to the rafters and begins climbing to the top rope, dangerous territory, and Van makes a dash for the ropes to knock them, thus shaking James off into a knock on the top turnbuckle.  James lurches forward, and Van simply batters him with a forearm shot, knocking him from his precarious perch and James drops to the ring apron, James cocks a leg up and rolls in only Van sets onto him with stomps, picking him up and powerslinging him into the corner and James smacks into the turnbuckles chestfirst and hits the mat with a heavy thud.

Van, becoming increasingly cocky, picks James up, James barely able to stay straight as it is only to be suplexed on the mat, hard.  1-2- James powers out, Van goes right for the iron claw, a cocky prick like that, James makes a grab for the ring ropes and barely gets there forcing the referee to intervene.  "1!2!3!4!  Knock it off!” The ref screams, and again Van simply says “Oh.” and peels James to his feet, who begins swinging away with left hands on his way to his feet, one after the other yet Scarburough ruins his comeback and drives a Thai-styled knee deep into Bests ribs, doubling James over before flipping him to the mat with a snap mare.  “The Plan” isn’t done just yet, and as Best sits up, he barely has time to second glance an already oncoming Scarburough, Van delivering a decapitation-worthy boot to the Best Seller’s head, knocking him flat on his back.   Van Scarburough doesn’t bother pinning James, coming to a stop at the ring ropes lit up with an over-excited grin on his face, arching his back and pounding his chest like King Kong, Van Scarburough comes alive, looking like he’d won the lottery he begins stamping the mat as James gets up  throwing a huge forearm, only to miss completely and James sprints right under it, bouncing off the ropes and dashing back at Scarburough, leaping and flipping him on his head with a dramatic Frankensteiner!!  Van Scarburough is thrown across the mat, unraveling beneath the bottom rope into a hunched recovery ringside and James, fistpumping with his one good arm, points over to Van’s location and breaks into a passionate dash for the ring ropes, bouncing back at full speed to throw himself over the top rope with a Fosbury Flop or ‘Written In The Stars!’ knocking Van Scarburough into a roll partially up the rampway!

“The Best In The Business” picks Van Scarburough and his “Oh” saying ass up from the mat, taking him and dumping him across the ring apron so that his head hangs off the aprons edge at the neck.  The fans are going absolutely crazy, still riding the Fosbury flop wave high, watching on to see what the best-selling author will do next and James turns to look at the crowd for a moment, scooping Van up in a front facelock and it suddenly dawns upon them, the move that has followed James every step of the way, and James pauses for effect, then rears his head up and steps backwards quickly, stopping only to wink at the crowd before plunging Van Scarburough to the floor below with a WELCOME TO NONFICTION DDT!!!

Motherrfucker?!!

The oldie but a goodie hits home and “The Plan” comes undone, his facial structure decimated into the thin rubber mats and James simply rolls inside the ring as the referee counts dramatically.  “ONE!  TWO!!  THREE!!! FOUR!!!!” James Best drops on both knees in a shining sweat, watching on as Van begins to pick himself up, on his feet at the count of “SEVEN!” only to collapse back down again.  “NINE!  TEN!!  RING THE BELL!!!”  The shouts of the referee confirm the obvious and with a wave of his arms he communicates with the timekeeper and James drops down and sits on his knee, tapping his invisible wristwatch and pointing at the “Redemption” sign high above the ring, pointing at it with a pistol grip and ‘shooting’ it.

Announcer Chick
“Your winner… by countout… JAAAAMES BEST!”

Ted Cedar
“James Best did what he said he would, he beat Van Scarburough and he goes to Redemption for the number one contenders match in T…L…C!!!”

Joey Miles
“Thinkin he wont god damn it he willll!!!!”

James grin is wide and bright and he glares into the camera, for at Redemption... it was story time.
