| The Chicago Bears have agreed to trade wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The trade, which cannot become official until free agency opens Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, will also rely on Marshall passing a physical.
A nine-year veteran and five-time Pro Bowler, Marshall fought through nagging leg injuries most of last season, and finished the year on the injured reserve due to fractured ribs and a punctured lung, and produced just 721 yards receiving. Prior to last season, Marshall racked up 1,000 yards receiving in seven consecutive seasons.
While Marshall's ability has never been questioned, he has often been a distraction off the field.
Last season Marshall was part of a postgame locker room rant after a loss to the Miami Dolphins, in addition to challenging a Detroit Lions fan to a boxing match on Twitter as well as weekly television duties as an analyst on Showtime's "Inside the NFL."
A mental health spokesman, the 30-year-old Marshall has seemed to put his past criminal issues in the rear view mirror. The mercurial receiver will join a Jets team that figures to rely on young quarterback Geno Smith and currently has receivers Percy Harvin and Eric Decker under contract.
Marshall is already familiar with the Jets' first-year head coach, Todd Bowles, as Bowles was an assistant with the Dolphins while Marshall was there.
The move is the first major splash made by Chicago's new leadership regime. Both coach John Fox and general manager Ryan Pace were hired by the Bears this offseason to succeed Marc Trestman and Phil Emery, respectively.
While the Bears have elected to move Marshall, the team plans to re-sign backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen, according to a source. The decision to re-sign Clausen comes at a time where the new Bears brass has remained non-committal on the future of incumbent starter Jay Cutler, who is in the middle of a seven-year, $126.7 million deal. If Cutler is still on the Bears roster March 12, $10 million of his 2016 salary becomes guaranteed. |

| "Geno Smith was so happy at this news he threw Marshall a welcome party. But it was intercepted and returned for a TD." |

| And as far as I know we're only giving up a 4th or 5th rounder for him. This is the steal of a lifetime for the Jets. Marshall / Harvin / Decker ... LETS GOOOOO |

| Another retirement home player? At least they didn't give up much. BTW If ya'll keep Harvin, ya'll owe us a 4th rder. |

| They're releasing Harvin.
Marshall & Decker is the best WR duo in Jets history. |

Retirement home? We're finally getting a beastly player that's still in his prime. There's a whole bunch of WR's I wanted in FA too, but I'd rather have Marshall (even if it's for the price of a 4th/5th as like I said that's a steal ) over any one of those FA's. |
