Fernando Alonso has been taken to a medical centre at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after a crash during testing.
The McLaren Honda driver was reported to be okay and conscious after the crash.
The Spaniard, twice world champion, hit the wall on the exit of Turn Three at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour.
An ambulance was dispatched to treat the 33-year-old Alonso at the scene of the accident, and he was subsequently airlifted to the circuit's medical centre.
Activity on the track was stopped after the crash.
Alonso's McLaren team later tweeted: "Fernando is conscious and is speaking. He has been airlifted to hospital for further checks."
