| Anticipation builds around the Oracle Arena, as the audience in attendance have been informed that the next segment will feature the return of Minkaro, after almost seventeen months away from XWA. There is an almost tangible excitement, which only increases when the lights of the arena suddenly dim, summoning a roar from the crowd. This only intensifies when a high-pitched shriek of “METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!” explodes from the PA system. The tribal chanting and guitar riff that opens Dream Evil’s “Book of Heavy Metal” follows, only to be cut off by the man himself, Minkaro, standing on the stage with one finger in the air, a signal that he wishes his entrance theme to be halted early. He begins to walk towards the ring, but stops just as he reaches the edge of the stage. A shake of the head, and a rub of his beard later, and Minkaro turns on his heel and returns to the centre of the stage, where he places one hand inside his jeans pocket, with the other clutching a microphone.

Thank you for that extremely loud welcome.
He is forced to lower the mic, such is the volume of the crowd’s “welcome back” response.

You know, my last match was against Mark Storey at Vendetta 58. I won, of course. I stand before you now at Vendetta 102, over a year on from that match, with just one question for everybody in Oakland, California, and everybody watching around the world.
After a brief cheer because Minkaro mentioned the name of their city, the crowd waits to see what the question is. The wait soon ends when Minkaro roars down the mic.

He marches to the edge of the stage, almost as if he is trying to confront the entire arena.

You stand there, and you chant my name, and you clap my appearance on this stage like it’s something you’ve been waiting for, and you display your Minkaro shirts and your Minkaro signs so proudly, but where were you when I was gone? Do any of you even realise why I wasn’t he? No, because none of you cared. Oh it’s fun to act like your fans of people when they’re standing in front of you, and they’re performing in that ring, but the second someone like me disappears from your screens, the second we’re not in the public eye, and you’ve forgotten all about us. You’ve moved on to whoever the new big star is, without so much as a second thought for anybody that came before.
Am I supposed to be grateful that you cheered my music? Am I supposed to be grateful that you’ve voted me in to face Bloody Mary at E-Volition? Am I fuck. If it wasn’t for last week’s snappily edited music video none of you would have a sodding clue that I was even still alive. The only reason you’ve voted me into that match is because I’ve just got back, and that’s given me enough momentum to be considered flavour of the month. And who the fuck is Bloody Mary anyway? Why is she bloody? Is it that time of the month? Trust that weasel Mirage to hide behind a woman the second he hears I’m coming back.
From what I hear, Bleeding Marjory is the most popular of people around here, and along those same lines, I’m facing Jared Jerusalem tonight. I don’t particularly care whether you cheer me against them or not, because whether you like someone or not means nothing to me. Cheer them, and I’ll kick them in the face. Boo them, and I’ll kick them in the face. You like voting? You’re taking part in the whole E-Volition thing? Minkaro drops the mic like the gangsta that he is, before disappearing backstage, leaving a very confused Oracle Arena behind him. |
