UPDATE: TMZ now reports that the Los Angeles Clippers have no plans to re-sign Lamar Odom after news of his crack cocaine use has come to light. That means that Odom will remain a free agent for the time being.

NBA sources said they wanted to re-sign him over the summer due to his performance last season, but he couldn't be reached and they couldn't make any progress on contract discussions. They were still interested in spite of that, but after the news broke that he was having trouble with drug addiction, that ended any interest.

Since then, former Los Angeles Laker forward Antawn Jamison has signed with the team and the roster is now full.



ORIGINAL: TMZ reports that Lamar Odom may have been doing drugs while playing for the Lakers, similar to how he was doing drugs while playing the Dallas Mavericks.

Sources at the Westin hotel in Memphis said that in March of last year, just before Odom was cut from the Mavericks, he stayed in one of the guest rooms while the team was in town for playing the Grizzlies. When Odom left, hotel employees found carpet damage, including quarter-sized burn marks. The damage was so bad the hotel had to replace the carpeting. They also found white powder on the desk blotte and the room smelled of noxious smoke. The sources say it was obvious there was drug use.

The Westin is one of several hotels where NBA players stay when they're traveling. Several employees of these hotels have complained about the state of rooms when Odom left, similar to Memphis, while playing for the Lakers. No one on the Mavericks knew Odom was abusing drugs while on the team, but they knew something was wrong.

At least part of the time he was on the Mavericks, he smoked Oxycontin and cocaine. His problems were so bad he was cut mid-season and paid in full. Odom is now said to be using crack cocaine, the level of which is said to be alarming and life threatening.
