This Wednesday night, Lucha Underground will make its official debut on the El Rey Network.
The series premiere was at one point scheduled to be 2 hours long, but is now being advertised as a one hour show.
The premiere episode is called “Welcome to the Temple,” and centers around Dario Cueto, Lucha Underground owner and promoter, welcoming fighters from around the world to his “Temple.” The fighters will battle it out for Lucha supremacy and a $100,000 prize.
The show will feature such names as former WWE stars John Morrison, Chavo Guerrero, Maxine and other “masked heroes and villains battling it out in the Temple.”
Below is an introductory video for the series, introducing viewers to the characters featured on the show, and a look at the ring and set:

Really liked the debut episode.
People are all the time going on about how they want other (non-WWE) promotions to be different ... this is different. It's not like ECW, but in the same way that ECW was completely different than anything else going on at the time when it started, this is just as different to today's approach.
Think Mortal Kombat meets pro wrestling.
It has a concept, it has a look, it has a feel. It has really good production values (particularly with vignettes and backstage segments that are shot much more like a TV show or movie -- not the 'don't they realize a camera is there?' stuff we get today in WWE/TNA/etc.).
It's one hour, which is just about right. First episode established concept, some characters and the start to some storylines.
Prince Puma (Ricochet) vs. Johnny Mundo (Mr. Abs, Morrison in his return to the ring) was a very solid main event. Looks like a lot of talent on the roster.
I was expecting AAA Lite: flippy little boys doing flippy little things. It most definitely is not that, so don't let the "Lucha" in the title fool you. If you get El Rey, I suggest you check it out.
