Just after posting our interview out of the San Diego Comic-Con, WWE Studios and Lionsgate have released the first ever look at the title character from Leprechaun: Origins, on VOD August 26th and DVD/Blu on September 30th.
This is really a weird reveal, in my opinion, as it looks like a piece of art as opposed to an actual picture of Hornswoggle (Dylan Postl) as the character. It’s actually a bit of a let down, especially coming out of the Comic-Con. If anything, he sort of looks like the creature from Creature with the nose of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If this is actually an origin story, why would he look like a monster instead of what we know in the former Leprechaun films? This reveal is confusing to me, but I still hold some faith that what we’ll see is going to be dark, scary and somewhat fun (as stated in the above interview).
Also starring Stephanie Bennett (Grave Encounters 2), Andrew Dunbar (Alien Trespass), Melissa Roxburgh (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days) and Brendan Fletcher (Freddy vs Jason), Leprechaun: Origins was written by Harris Wilkinson and directed by Zach Lipovsky.
“Backpacking through the lush Irish countryside, two unsuspecting young couples discover a town’s chilling secret. Ben (Dunbar), Sophie (Bennet), David (Fletcher) and Jeni (Roxburgh) quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be when the town’s residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Soon, the friends will find that one of Ireland’s most famous legends is a terrifying reality.”
