UK website The Daily Mail has covered Lana’s Battleground promo last night, citing her line “You blame Russia for current events?” as sparking outrage in light of the recent Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 disaster.

In a show last night, the characters ‘Lana’ and ‘Alexander Rusev’ launched into an anti-American rant in which they made reference to the flight MH17 being shot down and hailed Russian president Vladimir Putin for ‘making fools’ out of the U.S..

The Rusev and Lana roles often use Cold War-style rhetoric as part of their act, but their mention of last week’s MH17 disaster, in which 298 people died, has shocked the wrestling community.

Daily Mail is known to be a croc of shit.

However, I wouldn't have used that recent incident in a storyline, if I'm honest. Just doesn't sit well with people.

People wanting edgy stuff in WWE but complain when stuff like this happens.

Using real life incidents where hundreds of people died, only days ago, should never be used as a thing in storylines.

It didn't bother me, but as soon as I heard it I knew people were going to complain about it.

^^ They didn't mention MH17 though. They mentioned "current events," and there's more Russian-related current events than just the plane that got shot down.

Sure, but it's kinda' obvious she meant that, as that's the most "current event".

It doesn't offend me, personally, but I imagine if someone that has connections to that tragedy, they wouldn't be best pleased. I've seen people crack jokes on Twitter about it already, which is lame <_<

Lol no it doesnt, it's doing it's job, which is getting heel heat. When's the last time a foreign heel got mega heat, other than Muhammad Hassan?

This gimmick isn't even close to the heat Hassan was getting. They just get the cheap heat by mentioning Putin. The crowd is usually dead during matches/promos lol. That accolade ceremony Rusev had a while back was probably the dullest thing in a while.

Although this gimmick woulda totally worked...in the 80s lol

This gimmick helped get Jack Swagger over on a massive scale. If the gimmick wasnt working then the pops from his opponent wouldnt be as loud as they would be if say it was someone like Vladimir Kozlov.

Man, Swagger was always going to get over w/ Colter at his side.

Not as a face. When he started going after Rusev is the loudest the crowd has been his entire career. It's not his fault though, that lisp holds him back greatly.

Over on a "massive scale".   

Which Jack Swagger you watching? He'll be jobbing again after this is done, if it isn't already...

I dunno, the whole arena going apeshit for him when he came out during a Rusev segment? The whole Let's Go Swagger chants? Follow? Lol.
