Samara is finally cursing a new director.

Paramount Pictures has tapped F. Javier Gutierrez to direct the no-brainer next installment in The Ring franchise, Variety is reporting.

Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are on board as producers and it is unknown at this time if Naomi Watts will return to star.

Based on a Japanese cult success, the first U.S. film, which I still consider to be one of the scariest movies of all-time – and a major inspiration for V/H/S – went on to gross $249 million at the worldwide box office. The storyline revolved around a mysterious videotape that, when watched, curses the viewer (like a virus) a week after the person has watched it.

Gutierrez is also attached to direct The Crow reboot for Relativity and the Weinstein Company and also directed Before the Fall.

On one hand The Ring was awesome, if in hindsight terrible

I have to watch this. >_>

The Ring 3 is no longer culturally relevant.


That is unless the video transferred to DVD or Blue Ray and that just sounds stupid.
