There have been more than 300 million Tweets related to the World Cup since the tournament kicked off 15 days ago, double the amount for the London 2012 Olympics.
The competition runs until July 13.
The opening match between host country Brazil and Croatia saw the most Twitter conversation during a match so far, with more than 12.2 million Tweets.
The own goal by Marcelo of Brazil in the opening match was the most-tweeted moment.
Argentina's Lionel Messi is the most-mentioned player, with Brazil's Neymar next.
Uruguay's Luis Suarez, no doubt assisted by the infamous biting incident which has seen him banned from the tournament, was the third most-mentioned player on Twitter during the group stage.
