Sonic the Hedgehog is to be adapted into a film, it has been revealed.
Neal H. Moritz will produce the movie for Sony Pictures Animation, with the script being written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux.
The live-action hybrid, based on the Sega Genesis game Sonic the Hedgehog, does not yet have a release date.
The film will continue the highly popular Sonic franchise, which is about the speedy blue hedgehog, Sonic, and his battle to foil the evil plans of antagonist Doctor Eggman.
Hannah Minghella, who is overseeing the project, said: "There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog, and a built-in international fanbase.
"Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we're looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before."
It was recently announced that the Summer of Sonic convention will not take place this year.
